5 Ways to Prepare for THON 2017

Posted by THON™ | @pennstatethon

It’s finally that time of year again. Some people look forward to Christmas, others Halloween or their birthday. But for some of us here at Penn State, the best weekend of the year is THON weekend.

That’s right, the 46-hour marathon of no sitting and no sleeping that is held at the Bryce Jordan Center each year is one of Penn State’s most treasured traditions. If you aren’t familiar with THON, or this is your first year attending, here are some things you ought to know:

The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is the culmination of the yearlong efforts put forth by Penn State students to raise money for the Four Diamonds to help kids with childhood cancer. This year it will take place from February 17 to 19.

Valley is here to help you get ready for THON with this to do list!!

Go buy your tutu and fanny pack. Like, today.

One of the best things about THON is the way that everyone dresses for it. If you don’t already have the essential accessories, like a bright tutu or a fanny pack to keep your stuff in, you should go get them right away. Everyone else is going to have the same idea, so it’s best if you stock up now before all of the stores in town run out.

Cut back on the caffeine. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

I know what you’re thinking, coffee seems like a necessity to get through a whole weekend of little to no sleep, but actually it is quite the opposite. Drinking caffeine often leads to a severe crash after it wears off, and the last thing you want is to have a caffeine crash during THON. So start cutting back on the coffee now and it will be way easier during the actual weekend.

Get some sleep

Whether you are on a committee, dancing, or just planning to stay in the stands with your organization, THON weekend is going to be exhausting for you. Do yourself a favor and start going to bed earlier now so that you are rested and ready to dance come THON weekend.

Donate!

All of the proceeds raised by THON go toward the Four Diamonds, which helps families of children that are battling pediatric cancer. It is an amazing cause, and if you haven’t yet you should check it out! Pass this link along to people you know to donate money, donations can be made all the way through the end of THON weekend!

GET EXCITED!!

THON is a celebration of all of the fundraising efforts put forth by students all year long to help in the fight against pediatric cancer. Not only is it an amazing cause, it is SO MUCH FUN! Whether this is your first THON, or your fourth, put on your dancing shoes and get excited, because you are going to have the time of your life!
