Celebrity friendships are not new. Iconic duos like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler make fans melt over their adorable friendship. However, a more unconventional duo has recently made the news.
Kourtney Kardashian, 41, recently befriended TikTok star Addison Rae Easterling, 20, and their friendship has become a topic of conversation. Not only is their age gap noticeably different, but their career paths make for a unique friendship.
Easterling first met Kardashian because her son, Mason Disick, was a huge fan of her TikTok videos. Easterling told People Magazine, “I kind of just stuck around and we got really close,” she said. “We started working out together. We did a video on her YouTube of us doing a butt workout and stuff, so that was fun.”
They have been seen together getting dinner, doing workouts at Kardashian’s home, swimming and well… any activity that friends do! Their friendship may seem weird, but what is more interesting is the cross over between famous celebrities and social media influencers.
Kardashian, a well-known name, has been famous for quite some time. Her family has built a multi-million empire with brands like Kylie Cosmetics, KKW Beauty, Good American, POOSH and most popular, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. While a celebrity like Kardashian hangs around other famous friends, Easterling’s upbringing is slightly different.
Easterling, a Louisiana-native, is new to paparazzi and fans. She got started on TikTok in July of 2019 and quickly grew from there. She joined the Hype House and moved to Los Angeles in a matter of months. Before she knew it, she was on her claim to fame. Now Easterling has a following of 54 million on TikTok and nearly 30 million followers on Instagram.
Easterling’s relationship with Kardashian has shown the growing connections of celebrities to influencers. Influencers like Easterling are becoming more wealthy and appear in the public eye more than they used to. With apps like Instagram and TikTok, internet fame is easy to catch. But only a select of influencers have earned a massive following. Influencers like James Charles and Charli D’Amelio are only some of the examples of social media personas having connections to famous personalities. Not only has Easterling gotten to hang out with the Kardashian family, but she has collaborated with Jason Derulo and even was on Ellen.
Influencers like Easterling not only have celebrity friendships but are starting to be more involved in their own business ventures. Easterling has worked with brands like Reebok, Daniel Wellington, American Eagle for a campaign and has recently co-founded her beauty line, Item Beauty.
Social media started out as a place to exchange photos and ideas, but now, it has become a way to make a living. Easterling’s net worth is $5 million, according to Forbes. Her net worth makes her the highest-earning TikTok star as of 2020.
While Kardashian and Easterling have different backstories when it comes to their fame, the gap between “traditional celebrities” from the entertainment industry and social media influencers is closing. With influencers creating their own businesses and working with well-known brands, there are little differences between the two kinds of celebrities.
Easterling and Kardashian may seem like an odd pair, but as influencers grow, we might begin to see more celeb-influencer power duos like them.
