A pop of red lace or black detailed undergarments hiding under our everyday clothes can feel like an exciting secret from everyone else. Lingerie resembles sexiness, daring and confidence for anyone who wants to please themselves or others. While most buy matching sets or laced undergarments for a special occasion, is it acceptable for everyday wear too?

In our early teens, walking into Victoria’s Secret with your friends and buying your first lacey bra and undies encapsulated our first moments of trying to feel sexy. We’ve moved on from Hanes briefs to thongs with different patterns and colors. There’s a confidence boost within us when our undergarments match or have a feminine pattern.

When it comes to lingerie talk, it can feel a little taboo. Lingerie comes in all different forms like extravagant corsets to see-through babydoll dresses. The intimate apparel allows us to express our femininity. That shouldn’t only be appropriate for a special occasion.

Sexy intimates are great purchases that don’t need to be shared with the world. There’s no shame in the lingerie game as it is meant to empower our sexy sides that should be celebrated every day.

History Lesson on Lingerie

Over centuries, lingerie has evolved from bustiers and corsets worn under ball gowns, to sheer bras and undies worn under any piece of clothing. In the 18th and 19th centuries, women wore elaborate undergarments to shape their silhouettes. Tight corsets and large hoop skirts shaped women’s bodies to appear cinched at the waist.

As time passed and women gained more social freedom, so did their undergarments. Early forms of garter straps, bralettes, slip dresses and pointed bullet bras became popular choices for women in the 20th century.

Today, intimate apparel comes in bras, bodysuits, slip dresses, corsets and more that represent styles across centuries.
