On Sunday, March 7, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had an interview with Oprah Winfrey, exposing all of the dirty drama and secrets behind the royal family. This was not a normal interview, though.
They talked about why they left the U.K. to move to the United States while also dropping bombs about remarks that royal family members made about baby Archie. It is no secret that this interview left the world absolutely shook and confused by the backlash and posts made by social media users. Let’s unpack this very heavy load of drama that was unleashed by Markle and Prince Harry together.
Before Becoming a ‘Royal’
Before Markle had married into the royal family, she was unaware of the aspects of royal life.
“I didn’t grow up knowing much about the royal family … It wasn’t something that was part of the conversation at home,” Markle said.
Not only did she not know much about the family itself, she also says that she never did any research on her husband beforehand.
“I never looked my husband up online … I just didn’t feel the need to because everything I needed to know, he was sharing with me, or everything we thought I needed to know, he was telling me,” she said.
The Depression Behind Closed Doors
Although being a part of the royal family may seem all smiley and perfect, Markle felt the complete opposite. She opened up in the interview about her suicidal thoughts because of how she and her husband were treated.
“I just didn’t want to be alive anymore and that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought,” Markle said.
Prince Harry had gotten cut financially by the family last year and no longer continues a strong relationship with his father nor brother. He also says in the interview his security got taken away from him which was something he never saw coming.
“I never thought I would have my security removed because I was born in this position I inherited the risk”, said Prince Harry.
Luckily, he was able to have what his mother, Princess Diana, had left him before she died.
Is the Royal Family Racist?
During the interview with Oprah, one of the biggest pieces of information that Markle had talked about was how there was a comment made by one of the members of the royal family talking about her unborn child’s skin tone.
“In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time so we have in tandem the conversation of, he won’t be given security, not going to be given a title, also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born” Markle said.
Markle never said which member of the royal family had said this about her unborn child, but this left Oprah as well as the audience, speechless.
