As the weather cools down and leaves begin to turn, we find ourselves once again being bombarded with the sudden change of seasons. Starbucks is already pushing their pumpkin spice items, Michael’s has a display of cornucopias going for a bargain, and your friends are most likely already trying to coordinate a group Halloween costume.
Although it’s always difficult to kiss summer goodbye and come to terms with the fact that your toes won’t meet sand again for another nine months, VALLEY is here to remind you that there’s something to look forward to this fall.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 12, “American Horror Story” is returning to FX but this time with a twist like never before.
Ryan Murphy’s television anthology horror series is best known for its shock factor and originality, with each season deviating from the one before with a different set, characters and plot. What keeps this show’s rabid fan base and following alive is its returning cast, including Emmy winner Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates and Evan Peters.
In 2011, the series premiered with its critically acclaimed “Murder House,” which centered on the Harmon family: Dr. Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton) and their daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga), who move from Boston to Los Angeles after Vivien has a miscarriage and Ben has an affair. They move into a restored mansion, unaware that the house is haunted by the ghosts of its former residents and their victims.
Following the second season “Asylum,” the third season “Coven” premiered in 2013. The plot takes place in modern-day New Orleans, and follows a coven of Salem witches as they fight for survival. It also features flashbacks to the 1830s, 1910s, 1960s and 1970s, and included returning cast members Sarah Paulson, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe and Jessica Lange along with new cast members Emma Roberts and Kathy Bates.
So what’s the shocking twist that sets the series eighth season apart from its previous seasons? Following a vague tweet made by Murphy disclosing the season name, “Apocalypse,” super fans pieced together this season will be a crossover of “Murder House” and “Coven.” This can only mean that some fan favorite characters can be returning, which is a first in AHS history.
Although it’s vague as to what exactly will be happening throughout the season, cast members are feeding into craze by posting pictures of them on-set reprising their previous roles.
Despite all mystery of the cryptic clues and videos Murphy has dropped, what we do know is this season takes place 18 months in the future, and could possibly include the end of the world and even nuclear war.
We know the first four episode titles:
- Episode 801: “The End”
- Episode 802: “The Morning After”
- Episode 803: “Forbidden Fruit”
- Episode 802: “Could It Be Satan?”
We know the returning characters from “Murder House:”
- Jessica Lange as Constance Langdon
- Connie Britton as Vivien Harmon
- Dylan McDermott as Ben Harmon
- Taissa Farmiga as Violet Harmon
- Evan Peters as Tate Langdon
- Sarah Paulson as Billy Dean Howard
We know the returning characters from “Coven:”
- Jessica Lange as Fiona Goode
- Taissa Farmiga as Zoe Benson
- Sarah Paulson as Cordelia Foxx
- Kathy Bates as Delphine LaLaurie
- Frances Convoy as Myrtle Snow
- Lily Rabe as Misty Day
- Emma Robert as Madison Montgomery
- Gabourey Sidibe as Queenie
- Evan Peters as Kyle Spencer
And last but certainly not least … STEVIE NICKS AS HERSELF.
Many cast members are reprising more than one of their characters from previous seasons, so it will be interesting to see how AHS goes about this conflict of interest throughout the season.
Tune in tomorrow night at 10 p.m. EST on FX to see the premiere of American Horror Story’s eighth season “Apocalypse!”
