Avoid Wardrobe Malfunction: Sheer Tops

GraceShyu.SheerFashion trends are supposed to be easily mimicked right? And yet, more often than not, those effortlessly glam looks take more time and skill to recreate than meets the eye.  Case in point: the sheer trend.

One of the hottest trends right now is incorporating sheer tops into your outfits.  They are cute, lightweight and can be worn in a variety of ways and for a range of occasions. However, there are a few simple do’s and don’ts that can really make or break this look.

DO wear something underneath it.

No brainer (hopefully). But…

DON’T wear anything distracting under underneath.

Nude color camis and bandeaus work well! Don’t pull a Christina Aguilera on “The Voice” and try to rock something like a blue cheetah bra. That’s just not classy.

DO make sure that the rest of your outfit balances this revealing look.

Think about it. If you’re wearing less on the top, you should be wearing more on the bottom to balance your outfit. Try wearing jeans with your sheer look of choice, instead of those short shorts.

DON’T be afraid to experiment with prints.

Anyone else loving this animal print trend going on right now?

DO be careful of flash photography.

While your bra or bandeau may be virtually invisible in person, the flash from the camera will highlight every detail of your bra in photos. You’ve been warned.

DON’T just stick with the same style of sheer.

Make sure you experiment with different styles of tops.  There are a variety of options from full sleeved blouses to little summer tanks. Not all sheer is created equal.

DO try a cute vest or piece of costume jewelry with it.

Just because your shirt is bold and sheer doesn’t mean that you can’t stand to accessorize it a bit.

And our most important piece of advice:

DO wear it confidently!

The key to making the most of this trend is confidence. Sheer is not for the shy.

If you keep these simple do’s and don’ts in mind the next time you’re planning on wearing your favorite sheer top, then you’ll have nothing to worry about…except, the rest of the outfit!
