A new “it” girl has entered the chat and is taking TikTok by storm: Alix Earle. The 22-year-old senior from the University of Miami in Florida has become one of the fastest-growing creators on the platform to this day, amassing 3.7 million followers seemingly overnight. She is the new face of the longtime fan-favorite beauty trend, “Get Ready with Me” (GRWM) which originally gained popularity in the late 2000s YouTube era as a way for content creators to share their skincare, hair and makeup routines, giving fans a glimpse into their personal lives.
In the majority of Alix Earle TikTok’s, viewers see her recounting moments as a college student while she does her makeup and chooses an outfit for her day or a special event. While her earlier GRWM’s showed her preparing for classes, tailgates and college parties, her newer videos involve higher profile events since her recent assertion to fame. Just in late December, she took her fans along with her as she prepared for a VIP night out at Miley Cyrus’ New Year’s Eve Party in Miami.
Yet, despite her growing fame and disparate lifestyle from the normal college student, viewers praise Earle for her “relatable” personality and honesty. She candidly opened up about her acne struggles and Accutane’s journey, just a day after being side by side with Miley Cyrus, Earle posted a room tour video showcasing her messy college apartment. TikTok users revealed how this disorganization by Earle made them feel more comfortable in their own chaotic college apartments.
The blonde bombshell has a chokehold on the beauty industry – her white eyeliner makeup look has inspired a crowd of copycats, and many products she uses continue to sell out in stores across the country. Her fervent followers wiped the shelves clean of Benefit’s Roller Lash mascara, the Dyson Airwrap and other Earle-approved items, including the Drunk Elephant Sunshine Drops, as girls attempt to be her carbon copy.
And, that sentiment is not limited to her makeup. Recently, Earle posted a TikTok where she dyed her iconic long platinum blonde hair a bit darker. Though she personally struggles with getting used to her new appearance, followers booked appointments at their local hair salon to achieve her look. Many videos, featuring an iconic line from the Tina Fey movie Mean Girls, see girls getting the Alix Earle “Bronde” just days after she posted her video.
Her influence over teenage girls in the industry is apparent, and it doesn’t look like she is going to stop swaying people to buy her favorite products. What is your favorite product used by Alix Earle? Tweet or tag us @VALLEYmag with how Alix Earle has influenced your skincare or makeup routine.
