Although finals may have you down, the holiday season is finally here. The best way to spread Christmas cheer (besides singing loud for all to hear, as “Elf” leads us to believe) is to watch cheesy holiday movies with your friends, family or just a big mug of hot cocoa.
Holiday movies can be a great way to lift your spirits. And, luckily, streaming services like Netflix and Hulu have enough cheesy movies to turn even the biggest Grinch into Buddy the Elf.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
This holiday classic follows a grumpy green creature who sets out to ruin Christmas for the people of Whoville. Jim Carrey stars as the Grinch in this 2000 remake of Dr. Seuss’ tale.
The Knight Before Christmas
Vanessa Hudgens stars as a schoolteacher with a rocky love-life who comes across an actual 14th-century knight shows up just before Christmas. Her knight in shining armor’s quest in present-day Ohio provides for a very entertaining love story.
Klaus
A spoiled man is shipped off to work as a postman in the arctic circle and discovers a man named Klaus, who bears a striking resemblance to Santa. Though this is an animated movie, it’s sure to entertain the whole family.
Dear Santa
A young girl writes Santa a letter, but instead of wishing for new toys or tech this year, she wishes for her dad to find a wife. This quickly pushes her father into a love triangle in this Lifetime original.
Holiday in the Wild
In this Netflix Original, a woman’s husband abruptly ends their marriage and he decides to embark on a solo second honeymoon to Africa. Her journey helps her find purpose and romance as she stays in Africa through the holiday season.

A Nasty Piece of Work
Apparently holiday thrillers are a thing now. In this Hulu Original movie, an employee finds out he’s not getting a Christmas bonus unless he earns it by beating his co-worker in a violent competition set up by their boss.
Daddy’s Home 2
Dusty and Brad worked the kinks out of their relationship to become the perfect co-parents, until their dads come into town. Dusty’s macho dad and Brad’s sweet-natured father throw the whole family into complete chaos just in time for the holidays.
Holiday in Handcuffs
After a failed relationship, a woman has a breakdown right before Christmas and kidnaps a handsome guy to play him off as her lover in this rom-com. With Melissa Joan Hart and Mario Lopez as leads, this film is an instant classic.
Christmas With the Andersons
The Anderson family went all out for Christmas year after year, that was until Michael lost his job just before the holidays. However, his family helps remind him that Christmas can still be fun without any money.
Home for the Holidays
In this 1995 classic, Claudia Larson comes home for the holidays after a rocky few weeks. She lost her job, made out with her soon-to-be former boss, found out that her daughter plans to spend Thanksgiving with her boyfriend and now its time to face her family. What could go wrong?
