Bringing Coachella Valley to Happy Valley

At a glance, Palm Springs, California and State College, Pennsylvania do not appear to have much in common. However, there are some ways to make Happy Valley feel like Coachella Valley!

Concert Lineups

Despite the fact that some people only associate Coachella with its unique vibes and aesthetics, the truth is that the event would be nothing without music, as it is a music festival after all. This year, the headliners included Doja Cat, Lana Del Rey, No Doubt and Tyler, The Creator.

If you’re looking to attend a similar event but don’t want to pay the hefty price tag or fly to Palm Springs, be sure to flock to the IM Field on April 26 to attend Penn State’s very own “Movin’ On” music festival. This event is a student-run festival hosted annually for all Penn State students!

This year, the festival is on April 26, 2024. “Movin’ On” will feature Dayglow, Sexyy Red, Freddie Gibbs, the 502’s and the winner of Penn State’s Battle of the Bands, Hot Fudge Yacht Club.

Although the IM fields are not as majestic or whimsical as Coachella Valley’s deserts, there are certainly ways to incorporate boho-chic influences in your outfits, accessories and makeup if you so dare!

Food

One novelty feature of Coachella that attendees always talk about is the food. From absurd junk food and overpriced snacks to everyone’s favorite performers, the music festival features it all.

Although in Happy Valley there isn’t as extensive of a selection, downtown State College has many different restaurants for late night grub and quick fixes! If you’re down to cook, many copycat recipes exist online for some of Coachella’s dining staples, like the infamous date shake.

Decor Galore

Though attendees have strayed from Boho couture to fast fashion items, Coachella aesthetics have a reputation for being both outlandish and exotic.

If you’re looking to help make your dorm or apartment feel like Coachella, there are many different options to help make your humble abode mirror the unique aesthetic.

To find unique pieces that are bohemian, metallic and eye-catching, go thrifting, look at Urban Outfitters and even upcycle furniture, clothing and decor items.

Some accessories that many Coachella goers include in their fits are bandanas, belt bags and sunnies to beat the windstorms, hot desert sun and stay zen.

Even though State College is about 2,466 miles away from Palm Springs according to Google Maps, there are different ways to implement the lushness and euphoria of Coachella into your everyday life.
