Rising popstar Tate McRae has released a bold new single titled “Sports car,” and her fans are here for it. Filled with steamy lyrics and a music video to match, this new song has proven to be unforgettable to fans and listeners alike.
Bold Choices
Released on Friday, Jan. 24, “Sports car,” is one of McRae’s riskier songs with regard to its distinct sexual implications. The first verse begins with the lyrics “Hey, cute jeans / Take mine off me.” McRae’s saucy introduction is just the beginning on a song full of sexy intrigue.
McRae continues the spice by suggesting “We can share one seat,” before heading into the pre-chorus:
In the alley, in the back
In the center of this room
With the windows rolled down
Boy, don’t make me choose
-Tate McRae “Sports car”
Tastefully Risqué
One very interesting aspect of “Sports car,” is that although it contains sexual messages, McRae does not include any explicit language, which is often present in many of her songs. During the chorus the 21-year-old performer sneaks in an innuendo when she sings “We can uh-uh in it / While you drive it real far.” The chorus is also performed in a whisper which adds to the overall sensuality of the song.
You could do it on your own
While you’re lookin’ at me
-Tate McRae “Sports car”

Music Video Release
The “Sports car,” music video premiered on YouTube the same day as the song’s release, and has since reached over 5.2 million views. On her TikTok page, McRae admits to fans that she filmed 12 looks in one day, some of which include a cheetah print corset, a sheer white veil and a mermaid outfit with a blonde wig. McRae can also be seen singing next to a horse in some parts of the music video.
The Canadian singer-songwriter also has a strong competitive dance background, which she uses in both her music videos like “Sports car,” and live performances.
Who is Tatiana?
McRae’s artistic choices have shaped “Sports car,” into a raunchy yet tasteful expression of female confidence and sexuality. Many of the young artist’s fans attribute the new song and video to her self-proclaimed alter ego, Tatiana. In an interview with People, McRae commented on what started out as an inside joke, expressing that Tatiana is
Just a totally different side of me. She’s feistier and doesn’t really give a s***.
Making a Name for Herself
According to a Vogue exclusive on McRae’s fashion in the music video, the performer wants to “push boundaries,” to take herself from “a young popstar to a grown-up force to be reckoned with.” Her striking new song and video may be one of many upcoming bold releases as she continues to experiment with her artistry.
I think I got to show so many characters that I didn’t even know existed.
-Tate McRae in her Vogue interview
