“Call Her Daddy” host, Alex Cooper invited Vice President Kamala Harris to go on her podcast and talk about women. The “Call Her Daddy” podcast has always been a safe place for women to talk about the day-to-day issues they face. Cooper has made it her mission to expand the discussion on topics like mental health, sexuality, sex and traumas.

Prefacing the episode, Cooper explained she had been battling whether she wanted to involve the podcast with politics. She then realized she had a mixed audience and wanted to be able to share with them an interview that would go beyond a news interview.

Through this episode, Cooper’s goal was to get to know Vice President Harris as a person. It should also be noted that former President Donald Trump was reached out to and is welcome to come on the podcast if he ever wants to.

The Big Race

While the podcast’s main focus was being a woman in a society where women are treated like second-class citizens, the two did get into a little about the race and the plans Vice President Harris has for the U.S.

Vice President Harris is nervous about the race and she even said “There are only two ways to run: without an opponent, or scared.” The important thing to her is being able to talk with as many people as possible and talk about the future.

Vice President Harris chose to speak on Call Her Daddy because she recognizes that Cooper has a large audience that values being authentic and being heard and a part of a community.

Where It Started

To start off the longstanding conversation about choice and women’s rights, Vice President Harris shared values her mother taught her about having agency over your life. To her, having agency means not letting anyone take power from her and not doing anything half-assed.

Vice President Harris discussed her career as a prosecutor and how she wanted to protect those who were most vulnerable. She believes those who have gotten their power taken from them are the most vulnerable. Her ultimate goal is to do what she can to restore their right to have a voice and justice.

There are going to be so many people to tell you no, that you can’t, or that you are underqualified, or that the job is demanding. Both Vice President Harris and host Cooper feel that any individual who is not a white male has to work harder and smarter.

“I don’t hear no. And I urge all the daddy gang don’t hear no.”

You Are Who You Choose

The Vice President’s identity has been questioned and tossed around throughout the entirety of the election race. She says the issue is that people who don’t know who you are are often the ones trying to define you. Her advice is to not let them happen because at the end of the day, you are the only person who can define who you are.

Vice President Harris understands the value of words. She mentioned various times how grateful she is that Cooper hosts the “Call Her Daddy” Podcast to talk with those who feel unsafe and about uncomfortable topics. The importance of talking about these topics is that it makes room for there to be changed.

Throughout her career as a prosecutor, Vice President Harris understood that whatever she said would have great implications on a person’s life. She also jabbed at former President Trump saying that he is careless and reckless with his words and, more importantly, that he lies. He claims to be the protector of women but then takes away their rights. The words former President Trump uses create fear and division within the country.

Hot Topic

In their conversation about women’s reproductive rights, Vice President Harris painted a picture of what a “real” person would go through. The majority of women who receive abortion care are mothers and all of the states in the South except for Virginia have abortion bans. 1 in 3 women across the country need abortion care and are unable to receive it for various reasons.

The two women talked about how the issues surrounding abortion are not about religion. Religion is a personal choice and belief that you can instill in yourself and in your family. The fundamental issue goes on about being a government tells you what you can do. “It’s the guys in the state capital writing their rules because they believe they are in a better position to tell you what’s in your best interest”, said Vice President Harris.

Reproductive clinics do more than abortions they conduct paps, breast cancer screenings and run HIV tests. A lot of these clinics are closing because of abortion bans and people who need to receive these medical treatments are no longer able to. When this issue is on the ballot, many people choose freedom. They also wanted to note that there is no Constitutional law determining how men should control their bodies.

The Chaos

This interview had controversial reviews. Many people were appalled others loved the podcast episode. The idea was to show young voters who Vice President Harris is and what she plans to do for their future. Overall, the episode shows Vice President Harris as a woman, what she has gone through to get to where she is and where she hopes to take the future American women.
