There is a certain nostalgia that comes with cartoons as we move on from what seems to be childish, and refine our tastes in entertainment to be more ‘mature.’ However, whether it is “Tom and Jerry” or “Spongebob Squarepants” that makes you think of Saturday mornings in front of the TV, there is a reason we feel warm inside and never truly outgrew the magic of our favorite childhood cartoons: they’re AMAZING.
As proven by “The Simpsons,” “South Park,” “Rick and Morty,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Family Guy” and more, cartoons are not just for kids. While these shows are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from the perceived wholesomeness of those from our beloved youth, there is a happy in between for those days that you just want to kick back with some gummy snacks and feel like you’re five.
Look no further than good old Netflix for your cartoon fix this summer and escape to Arcadia, Ever After High and Barbie’s Malibu, California.
“Troll Hunters”
Created by the ingenious and award-winning Guillermo Del Toro, “Troll Hunters” encapsulates the world of mystery and childhood imagination that lies right under the viewers’ noses, quite literally. In the hidden world of Trollmarket existing below the small town of Arcadia, Jim Lake finds himself between worlds when he and Trollmarket are faced with an unprecedented crossover as he discovers a magical amulet.
“Ever After High”
“Ever After High” is home to the children of all your favorites and least favorites of famous fairy tales. With each destined to follow in their parents’ footsteps, both the children of good and evil must seal their destiny to preserve their stories. In the Fairy Tale World, Royal and Rebel Apple White and Raven Queen along with their friends battle with choosing their own paths or signing The Book of Legends and saving their stories. Combining elements of The Fairy Tale World, Wonderland and more, “Ever After High” is a dream come true adventure.
“Barbie Life In the Dreamhouse”
“Barbie Life In The Dreamhouse” is a hilarious and fun parody of the famous doll and her friends. This cartoon reality show features Barbie, her friends, her boyfriend, Ken and her pets living in Malibu, California. They do everything together and not without making a comedic self-reference to being dolls. Though “Barbie Life In The Dreamhouse” is a kids show, it keeps adult viewers on their toes.
