Every year, the Bellisario College of Communications brings speakers to talk about their profession, successes, failures and lessons learned in their respective industry. Many times students don’t know that speakers are coming to campus, and those who do know have only been informed because of class requirements. Typically, college students don’t want to go out of their way to hear a stranger talk about their life experiences, however, you might be pleasantly surprised by what you learn and walk away with!
These speakers provide important insight about the professional world, especially the ins-and-outs of the increasingly competitive journalism field. Networking with experienced professionals, and learning who to know or how to stand out can make all the difference between you and your competitors. So, before you blow off another email introducing a speaker, think about how this person could open your mind up to new possibilities, or make a connection that could prove priceless.
Make sure you check out this semester’s speakers and mark you calendar so you don’t miss out.
