This year marks the 90th year of the Academy Awards, which means, for the past 90 years, the most glamorous of Hollywood’s stars have gathered together to walk across a very special carpet to celebrate their successes and inspire the dreams of viewers all around the world, some of whom would go on to follow in their footsteps.
The 2018 Oscars red carpet was no exception to the decades of glamour that came before. There were dazzling sparkles, electrifying colors and, more importantly, many celebs donned pins that simply stated, “Time’s up.”
Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino walked the carpet arm in arm. The two women who spoke out with allegations of sexual abuse against Harvey Weinstein showed up together and spoke about how the “Me Too” movement is continuing to make progress and will not stop until changes are made.
Golden Girls
One of the trends of the evening was glittering gold. “Black Panther” star Lupita Nyong’O glistened like an Oscar award herself in a one-shoulder golden number with a black sash across her torso. Sandra Bullock also stunned in a high-neck gold and black gown. Tiffany Haddish honored her late father’s heritage by donning a traditional Eritrean gown.
Color Pop
Viola Davis stood out in the crowd in electric pink. Nicole Kidman stunned in an architectural navy blue gown. Jennifer Garner popped in a bright blue dress. Saoirse Ronan wore a subtle pale pink dress with a statement bow at the back. Emma Stone chose a berry blazer with slim black pants. Lin Manuel Miranda shook things up with a navy blue jacket. Allison Janney wore a scarlet gown with sleeves extending all the way to the floor.
Glitz and Glam
“Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot wore a 1920s-inspired, drop-waist dress covered in silver sparkles. “Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez wore a crystal-covered beige dress with a statement belt cinching in the waist.
Black, White and Sleek All Over
Timothée Chalamet, who took his mom as his date, wore a completely white suit, down to the bow tie. Taraji P. Henson sizzled in a gauzy black gown with a deep v-neck and a high slit at the thigh. Margot Robbie wore a layered white dress with a column silhouette and tinsel-like trip along the top.
While the glitter and jewels shined like always on the Oscars red carpet, nothing outshined the sense of unity and support among Hollywood’s finest who are determined to see change.
