Dear Cupid, What Happened?

Ding! You look down at your phone and see the bright yellow icon with a tiny white ghost appear on your screen. It’s a chat from Luke, or Ben, or Alex or whatever boy you recently added. You half swipe the chat and see a dreadful “Wyd” (What’re you doing.) Honestly, I’m waiting for more…

Technology Has Ruined Love

In this day and age, everybody is glued to their phones. Whether it be keeping up on the latest Instagram posts, going for the high score on Block Blast, or doom-scrolling for endless hours on Tik Tok, teenagers and young adults cannot seem to escape the prison that technology has put us in.

To put it plainly, technology has corrupted chivalry. I want flowers from the market, not for you to “heart” my message. I want to go out for a nice dinner where I get to do my makeup and hair for hours before, not go to a greasy pizzeria for a quick bite. But mostly, what I want is to bring back old romance.

Bring Back Old Romance

We can all picture it. Noah Callhoun from The Notebook reading to the dementia ridden Allie Hamilton every single day to remind them of the love they share, or what about Jack from Titanic quite literally giving up his life to save Rose. In the past, it was common for men to perform grand gestures for the women they love, but now, we’re lucky if we get a text back other than “ok.”

Alternatives For Men

In case you’re not catching the drift, here are some ideas:

We don’t want to come over and “watch a movie” because we all know how that will end. Instead, take us to a drive-in movie theater where we can order popcorn and sit in the car snuggling while watching a glitchy movie on the giant projector screen.

How about instead of being lazy and doordashing a quick dinner, we go to the local diner. We can order a milkshake and put in two straws, so when we go for a sip we lock eyes for a quick second before indulging in the frozen sweet treat.

Oh and that horrible rainy weather? Don’t cancel on us because of the conditions, meet us outside our houses and dance in it with us. Pick us up, hold us up to the sky and make us feel like the only girl in the world.

Although we can’t reshape the idea of love in a single article, let’s start with a few of these ideas. Go back to the basics and re-learn the simplicity of “old romance” and how much joy it can bring.
