Emmys Fashion: Best Dressed Stars—Minus the Red Carpet

With this year’s 72nd annual Emmy Awards being mostly virtual, red carpet fashion looked a little different this year. While the presenters were allowed to be on the live set in Los Angeles, most nominees attended via video-chat from the comfort of their homes. With no pre-show red carpet, the producers did offer some guidelines stating, “Our informal theme for the night is ‘come as you are, but make an effort!”

While many stars took followed this guidance and chose to wear more casual outfits, others still stood out with their fashion choices. Here are some of the most memorable looks from the night. 

Zendaya in Armani Privé

Zendaya became to youngest actress to ever win Lead Actress in a Drama Series and did so wearing a stunning custom polka-dot and crystal-embellished Armani Privé gown. The Euphoria star took a fresh take on Old Hollywood glamour and definitely made a fashion statement from home.

Julia Garner in Chanel

Julia Garner went for full glam, yet timeless look for the virtual Emmy’s. The Ozark star wore cream-colored silk Chanel pajamas paired with lots of pearls and a Daisy Buchanan-esque headband. Garner won her second Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Regina King in Schiaparelli

Regina King used her Emmy’s look as an opportunity to make a strong political statement and honor Brenna Taylor, the 26-year-old black woman who was fatally shot by police in a raid of her apartment that has sparked nationwide protests. King won her fourth Emmy award. During her speech, she wore a fuchsia Schiaparelli suit with a black shirt that read, “Say Her Name” and featured an image of Breonna Taylor— and she made sure to urge viewers at home to vote.

Dan Levy in Thom Browne

Dan Levy,  the “Schitt’s Creek” creator, writer and star wore a grey skirt suit by Thom Browne—channeling the same look seen in the wedding finale of the series. Levy and many of his other cast members gathered safely at a mansion in Toronto, Canada for their own Emmy’s party. The TV series had 15 Emmy nominations and six wins.

Kerry Washinton in Oscar de la Renta

Kerry Washington looked classic and stunning in a fresh, floral print Oscar de la Renta gown. Washington captioned her Instagram photo in her gown, “Little Flowers Everywhere” in homage of the nominee’s show. The Little Fires Everywhere star attended an Emmy backyard party where she showcased another Oscar de la Renta gown— a classic black and gold look.
