Every September and January the fashion world flocks to different cities around the world to catch a glimpse of the latest trends from the hottest designers. While the main focus is always primarily the clothes, recently, there has been a renewed interest on the models who showcase the collections. Supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington paved the way for up and coming models of this season, many of whom were discovered in the strangest of places.
The fashion world moves at lightning speed and no one knows that better than Austin, Texas native, Remington Williams. Just days before the start of New York Fashion week, Williams was working at a Chipotle in Texas when a modeling scout discovered her and quickly whisked her off to New York City. From there, the fashion newcomer was signed to DNA Models and walked her first show for the iconic Calvin Klein.
“During my callback, Raf Simons personally taught me how to walk,” the graphic design student told Vogue. “He could have picked any model, but he believed in me so much that he took the time to help me so that I could do his show.”
Williams went on to walk in the Marc Jacobs show and is currently practicing walking in her stilettos, claiming that, “models do not get enough credit… they make it look so easy.”
The fresh face is adjusting to life in New York and is currently living in an apartment with other models, a common practice for city newcomers such as Williams.
Another new face that emerged at the Calvin Klein show shares genetics with one of the most famous models of all time. Kaia Gerber, the 16-year-old daughter of Cindy Crawford, began her modeling career with a bang and has been declared the new “it” girl of fashion. This opportunity has been a long time coming for Gerber, who has modeled since the age of 10, but she was restricted from walking the runway until her 16th birthday which was earlier this September. It is becoming more clear to the world that Kaia inherited not only her mother’s enviable looks, but also her star power by working around other fabulous stars such as Harry Styles and fellow models Kendall Jenner, Bella and Gigi Hadid.
Hailey Baldwin is a name you’ve been hearing because of her friendship with Kendall Jenner and her famous uncle Alec Baldwin, but Baldwin solidified herself as more than just a famous name by walking in the Dolce&Gabbana show in Milan last week. After serving as maid-of-honor at her older sister’s wedding in early September, the runway newcomer jetted off to Milan to take part in the Fashion Week fun. The 20-year-old is most famous for her fling with Justin Bieber last year but has slowly been appearing in magazines and even scoring the cover of ELLE magazine this past July. Baldwin is currently strutting her stuff down runways in Paris which closes the fashion month line-up.
The fresh faces of the modeling world change as quickly as the seasons do, and it is always fun to predict who will rise to supermodel status and who isn’t cut out for the business. One thing is certain among the ever-changing tide of fashion and that is we have not seen the end of these fashion world newcomers.
