“Home Alone” star Macaulay Culkin famously known as eight-year-old “Kevin,” has warmed our hearts every holiday season by defending his home from pesky thieves and his witty nature.
On Friday, Dec. 1 Culkin was granted the 2,765th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Along with his fiancée, Brenda Song, his son Dakota and his newborn infant were all in attendance. CEO and President of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Steve Nissen announced that today be known as “Macaulay Culkin Day.”
He addressed all of Culkin’s career achievements, his Golden Globe nomination for “Home Alone” and his honorable charity work. During his acceptance speech, Culkin expressed his gratitude to those he loved most.
“I’d like to thank Brenda. You’re absolutely everything. You’re the best person I’ve ever known. And after the birth of our two boys, you’ve become one of my three favorite people,” Culkin says.
He also shared this special moment with his on-screen mother from “Home Alone,” Catherine O’Hara. The way she talked about Macauly’s success was almost that of a real mother.
“The reasons families around the world can’t let a year or holiday go by without watching [Home Alone] is Culkin,” she said as Culkin wiped away tears. “He made acting look like the most natural-looking thing in the world,” she says.
She went on further to let Culkin know how much he deserved this honor. With so much nostalgia in one room, it was certainly a tear-jerker to see these two reunited.
“Macaulay, congratulations. You so deserve your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once but twice, to share in this happy occasion. I’m so proud of you,” says O’Hara.
Providing for his family at such a young age became taxing and demanding for Culkin. He certainly had his fair share of battles throughout being in the spotlight as a child star. At 15, he quit acting and essentially left Hollywood for good. In many articles this was due to the immense spotlight from “Home Alone” and his estranged relationship with his parents.
“Our 1994 divorce was one of the best things that’s ever happened, as it led to me leaving the industry,” Macaulay says on Marc Maron’s podcast in 2018 after he pursued emancipation from his parents.
However, Culkin gave Hollywood a return to acting in 2003 starring in the film “Party Monster” and season 10 of “American Horror Story: Double Feature.”
We have seen Culkin through many highs and lows but “Home Alone” has become an unwritten law to watch every holiday season. His acceptance speech ended with the classic, “Merry Christmas, you filthy animal.”
