Ladies, it’s 2020. We can wear what we want, do what we want and go where we want when we want (socially distanced and following CDC guidelines, of course). Women are more independent and liberated than ever. While we still have quite a ways to go, there are some steps we can take together to get there. This year, the word “bimbo” has had a sudden resurgence and is being redefined by young women across the internet seeking to reclaim the word.

TikTok, of course, is leading the charge to reclaim “bimbo.” #BimboTok, the bimbo side of TikTok, has 3.4 million views and counting. TikTok user @chrissychlapecka is encouraging “girls, gays and theys” to take back the word “bimbo.” Chrissy, based in Chicago, has a following of 986.8k on TikTok (as of December 12) and is leading the charge to raise a new generation of bimbos.

Chrissy’s TikTok is an inclusive, gender-neutral safe space for anyone looking to “have their tits out or be bad at math.” Whether she is parading around Chi-Town with a megaphone, asking strangers if they support bimbos, or reciting the “Bimbo Bible” via a PowerPoint presentation on her laptop, Chrissy is rewriting the negative narrative that has surrounded bimbos for decades.

As Chrissy mentioned in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the word “bimbo” was coined by men as a misogynistic term to degrade women who are hyperfeminine, sexy, confident women. The connotation behind this word, when used by cis, heterosexual men, is derogatory and insulting; but now that women are taking this word back, the narrative is switching to a positive, encouraging one.

Chrissy isn’t the only proud bimbo on the internet. #Bimbofication on Instagram has almost 60,000 posts. @BeaBimbo is a page dedicated to hyping up women and encouraging the bimbo lifestyle. There are entire pages on Etsy dedicated to the Bimbo lifestyle, such as @ShopRatz, which sell everything from stickers to sweatshirts.

Reclaiming “bimbo” isn’t just an act of female sexual liberation, but an act of female empowerment. Being in charge of our own bodies and sexualities is a right that masculine straight men have enjoyed since the beginning of time. Girls, gays and non binaries have not been able to exercise this same right because it has not been considered their right. The reclamation of bimbos is sparking a movement that sexually liberates everyone.
