Getting Ready for Graduation

There are less a few weeks standing between the class of 2021 and their graduation. Fortunately, this year’s graduating class will have a somewhat normal commencement ceremony. Unlike some universities, Penn State has managed to put together an in-person commencement being held in Beaver Stadium May 7-9. For many graduates, this will be their first time in Beaver Stadium since 2019! Now the countdown begins and VALLEY’s here to break down everything you need to do to prepare:

Getting Tickets

Earlier this month, Penn State sent out an email to RSVP to in-person commencement. While that RSVP was due April 14th — it’s part of a process to secure your tickets.

If you have RSVP’d, you can expect another email later this month from golions@psu.edu to confirm your tickets and register your two guests. Then you’ll receive your assigned seats, which will be configured in pods of three to ensure social distancing, as well as an arrival time.

Finding a Dress

For the ladies, it’s a whole mission trying to find the right dress. If you’re looking to shop locally, People’s Nation and Connections are great options. Likewise, with just a short drive to Bellefonte you can find even more shops such as Lock Boutique.

While the option to try-on is a big perk of shopping locally, sometimes the selection can be limited. Online retailers such as Princess Polly, Altar’d State, Lulu’s and Lucy in The Sky have seemingly endless options. Going with the classic white dress will make your group photos look more cohesive, but you can also make a statement with a printed pattern or pop of color! VALLEY tip…just make sure you feel the most confident version of yourself on your special day!

Taking Pictures

After amazing years at Penn State, your graduation is a huge accomplishment. To commemorate your time here, a photo shoot with your closest friends is the perfect way to do it. Around this time of year, independent photographers and student photographers are promoting their work.

Keep an eye out in Penn State Facebook groups, GroupMe and social media platforms for available booking. Classic photo op spots include: Nittany Lion Shrine, Beaver Stadium, Old Main.

A university-wide virtual graduation will also be held Sunday May, 9 at 6 p.m. and is available here. Congratulations to the graduating class!
