Halloween is back, and whether you’re late on buying your costume or ready for the festivities ahead, there is one topic that has everyone in a tizzy: WHEN ARE WE CELEBRATING PENN STATE? Well, VALLEY is here to give you an answer about the right weekend for the spooky festivities.
Where’s the dilemma?
This year, due to how the stars have aligned and going back to school later, everyone has felt thrown off by the schedule. From football being the first week back to the NAACP block party being held in October, everyone can see a shift in how back-to-school events are held. One thing is for sure: Halloween has been a staple in every student’s life and it feels like it’s coming around quicker this year.
That normal weather transition of summer to fall snuck up on everyone and the fall season is here. That also means our favorite holiday of the year is coming right around the corner… Halloween. But hold up wait a minute, this calendar looks kinda off.
The reason why there has been talk amongst students on what weekend we are celebrating Halloween is due to the date of the holiday. Normally it is celebrated leading up to the day of Halloween itself, but this year Halloween falls on a Thursday (a thirsty one if you catch my drift). The holiday goes right into our football weekend versus Ohio State. So now the dilemma has become, do we celebrate the week of or before Halloween?
Pros of the week before!
So what are the pros of celebrating the week before?
- We’ll still have our last bits of true warmth before the school gets officially cold
- It’s away weekend for football which means the bars will be packed but full of people in costumes celebrating
- Technically we’re still celebrating correctly by holding the holiday in the same month
- We can focus on the priority of beating OSU next week and not have confusion during the stripe-out
Pros of the week of Halloween!
But what are the pros of having it during the official Halloweekend?
- It adds an extra level of fearless going into OSU weekend
- We’re celebrating on the correct date #ThirstyThursday edition
- We can still have spooky vibes the first two days of November
- Halloween landing on its correct date is sacred!!!!
- Finally … DVSN at Champs aligning with Halloween whew!
Drumroll, please…
So what has the general population come to as a consensus? Well after a Barstool PSU poll posted on Instagram, the students have spoken and Penn State will be celebrating Halloweekend the weekend of November 1st and 2nd! But don’t be surprised if you see students dressed up the weekend before, because the poll had a high vote of celebrating both weekends and the weekend of the 31st.
