Watch out State College, Sabrina Carpenter is bringing sexy back! During her Short n’ Sweet tour, Sabrina surprised her audience by showing off different sex positions each night during her song “Juno.” This spicy addition follows her infamous “Nonsense” outros that went viral all over the internet.
From reverse cowgirl to the splits, Carpenter has been embracing the idea of female sexual pleasure for the entirety of her tour. During other parts of her song “Juno,” fans sing along with Carpenter “I’m so f*cking horny!”
There has been some backlash (especially from younger fan’s parents) about whether or not these lyrics and behaviors are appropriate but Sabrina Carpenter is a part of the radical movement to embrace female sexual desire and pleasure.
Historic Hotties
For decades, female singers have been advocating for female sexual pleasure through their songs. From Beyonce to Madonna, artists have been unafraid to talk about sex in their music. One of the most notable came from Cardi B with her rap song “WAP,” which features Megan Thee Stallion. When it was released in August of 2020, the song and music video received a lot of differing opinions online.
While some described it as disgusting or vulgar, others praised the song for reframing female sexuality. Many, including Megan Thee Stallion herself, pointed out that male rappers have been talking about women in the same narrative for decades.
Hot & Sexy Girls are Back
Sabrina’s steamy tour is just one example of a new era of music. She invites women to reclaim the narrative we’re often told to stay silent about.
In her interview with Time Magazine, Carpenter said that she definitely feels aligned with female singers who have historically faced backlash about expressing their sexuality, such as Brittany Spears and Christina Aguilera. When asked about all the criticisms she gets for being so open about her sexuality, Carpenter says:
“But you’ll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing. And to that I just say, don’t come to the show and that’s OK. It’s unfortunate that it’s ever been something to criticize, because truthfully, the scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it’s nothing. If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that’s what you’ve got to do.”
