As if Generation Z’s Alexa Chung couldn’t become more successful, Emma Chamberlain just landed herself the Spotify deal of the century. While we’re not worried that Chamberlain’s podcast, Anything Goes, will go down the same path as Call Her Daddy, it’s the trajectory of Chamberlain’s career and the fact that she’s still the same girl we all fell in love with in high school that makes our unspoken bond with her even stronger.
After starting her YouTube channel in 2017, Chamberlain has had nothing short of a fast track to fame, and with all of the perks to show for it. From the Met Gala to a new ambassador position for Lancome, Chamberlain seems to have made the life for herself she’s always wanted and more. But when was it that her career really took off? Was it when she finally packed up her life and moved to L.A.? Or, was it when Louis Vuitton became one of the first brands to recognize creators and their impact on the fashion industry? Let’s unpack, shall we?
If you’re one of her OG subscribers, you would remember Emma’s so-called “annoying phase,” when she still lived in her mom’s apartment, began her cooking segment “Cooking with Emma” and drank an obscene amount of iced almond milk lattes. But while we’d have to argue that everyone was annoying at that age, that’s what makes her brand so relatable and timeless—the fact that she looks back on her younger self and thinks what was I doing?
However, after an incident that threatened Chamberlain’s safety, that was when she made the fated move to L.A. But while her fans were worried that L.A. would change her, Chamberlain has and continues to be her true authentic self—despite her indulgence of all things L.A.. But hey, if she loves Erewhon, then so do we.
Since then, Chamberlain has accrued a cool 16.2 million followers on her Instagram, on top of a whopping 12 million subscribers on YouTube even after her recent hiatus. But despite her leaving behind what brought her to fame at such a young age, it made her transition into podcasting full-time that much more seamless and more sensible of a career choice. The real question though is whether or not her Spotify deal will be what Anything Goes needs. More importantly, whether it’s what she needs.
Unlike Call Her Daddy, where Alexandra Cooper’s entire brand and persona is her podcast, we think Chamberlain and her fans have nothing to worry about. That’s one thing we can all learn from Chamberlain—to dabble in everything. From Chamberlain Coffee, the brand her fans have been waiting for since day one, to becoming a Fashion Week veteran, appearing on Vogue make-up tutorials and showcasing her newly renovated home on Architectural Digest, the list goes on and on. It’s safe to say she’s one of the few creators that not only does everything but does it all so well.
So while Chamberlain isn’t in that same tiny Bay Area apartment from all those years ago, you can’t help but just be proud of her and the multitude of accomplishments she’s achieved.
Here’s to the internet’s bestie, oh, and don’t forget your forehead kiss.
