Honey: it’s such an iconic ingredient in so many different aspects. Whether it’s Winnie the Pooh and his “hunny” pots or the classic honey bear container, honey is a substance that we all recognize and know … or is it? There are lots of ways to incorporate honey into your beauty routine that you may not know about!
Scar Fader
Did you know that honey has scar-fading properties? If you simply massage it into scarred or stretch-marked skin it can help to heal up the scars!
Moisturizer
Honey is also a humectant, which means it will keep your hair and skin moisturized if you know how to use it! For a cuticle or lip moisturizer, just put a little bit of honey on the dry area, leave for 10 (or so) minutes, and then wash it off… voila! Smooth, moisturized skin for days!
Here’s a super simple honey mask (via Don’t Mess with Mama) you can make at home. Be sure to do a patch test beforehand to assure that you’re not allergic to any ingredients!
What you’ll need
- 1 tablespoon of raw honey
- 1 tablespoon of uncooked oatmeal
What you’ll do
- Grind up the oats in a blender until they are powder
- Mix with the honey
- Apply the mask to your face
- Let it sit for 15-20 minutes
- Use a washcloth soaked in warm water to wipe it off
- Enjoy your newly exfoliated skin!
Acne Spot Treatment
If you have a breakout, try smearing a little raw honey onto it and waiting a few minutes before rinsing it off. The anti-bacterial properties help to keep your skin’s bacteria in proper balance. It can even help the redness to go down!
Hair Conditioner/Moisture Mask
Honey is good for your hair as well, in that it can leave it silky smooth and hydrated. For a simple hair mask (via Women’s Health) that’ll leave your hair soft and luxurious, follow the steps below.
What you’ll need
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1/2 cup unprocessed honey
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
What you’ll do
- Blend all ingredients until smooth
- Apply to your hair and scalp
- Let sit for 20-25 minutes
- Wash out with cool water & shampoo
- Comb through your hair
- Wash again (if needed)
According to Women’s Health, this mask can be used 2-3 times per month!
Burn Reliever
Honey hasanti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that make it perfect for helping to heal or soothe a burn. After you get a sunburn or any other type of burn, clean it and then rub honey into it to help calm the burning sensation.
