Kevin White, a Penn State senior, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in his hometown of Philadelphia, just 9 days before graduation.
“It’s tough to think about,” says Emmanuel Ukpong, a brother of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and friend of White. “We’re young and think we’re invincible… this is a really rude awakening.”
Phi Beta Sigma members shared the news on their Facebook, PSU Sigmas, Thursday morning after receiving word from White’s family members. He says someone had access to White’s social media and posted that White “was taken from us last night.” White was not a fraternity brother, but a friend of members.
“Kevin was one of those guys everyone knew,” he says. “He wasn’t shy with saying hello to everyone.”
Upkong says the cause of death has not yet been confirmed to the Penn State community, but that he believes it may have been a motorcycle accident.
According to Ukpong, friends have reached out to the College of Liberal Arts requesting that a moment of silence be held for White at graduation.
“He worked for it,” he says.
