How To Spice Up Your Space to Make It More You

Over the past few months, bedrooms have probably become the place we not only sleep but work, eat, watch movies and more — especially if you’re living in a dorm. The best way to make your space a little more comfortable and freshen it up is by redecorating with things that’ll bring your room to life.

While minimalism has become a popular trend, especially as a new method of decorating your space, lately many people have decided to add unique pieces into their living spaces.

Although we might not be able to have Dakota Johnson’s green kitchen, Kendall Jenner’s golden bathtub and Elsa Hosk’s vintage living room right now, we can definitely take some inspiration from it without hurting your wallet.

Here are some VALLEY recommendations on how to spice up your space.

Get Yourself Some Plants

Plants can bring so much life into your room and can be found basically anywhere. Plants are super aesthetic and studies show that houseplants reduce stress, improve productivity and concentration.

If you don’t have a green thumb, you can always opt-out for a fake plant which essentially gives off the same look but without the added benefits. With a plant comes a pot and you can find super cute ones in stores like Urban Outfitters or handmade ones on Etsy.

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Mirrors can make your space look so much bigger than it really is, plus you get the added benefit of looking at yourself constantly. Mirrors come in pretty much any shape and size. There are mirror stickers, floor mirrors or the old fashion way of hanging it up on the wall.

Decorate Your Area

Decorating your space with things that you like can make a serious difference in how you feel about it. Your room should feel like yours and you can do this by displaying some personal items such as pictures of friends or family, pieces of jewelry, fragrances or even just picking up some cool candles. These items can make a whole difference.

Hang Some Art

Unless you’re the type of person with a minimalistic style of room design, having a bunch of blank walls can make a room feel bare. Hanging up wall art, posters or even a wall collage can change a whole space and even give you a bit more inspiration.

Framed art can definitely get on the pricier side but many websites like Redbubble offer decently priced prints. If you’re looking to have a little DIY moment, you can also make your own wall art by painting canvases or printing some Pinterest pictures at CVS and making a mood board.

Switch Up Your Bedding

Your bed is probably where you spend the majority of your time, so why wouldn’t you want to spend extra time making sure it’s amazing? It is super easy to switch up your bedding and you can do it by adding in some funky throw pillows, changing the color of your sheets or just going for a full duvet remodel.

Rearrange Your Furniture

If you’re not looking to spend money on redecorating but still want to switch up your room, try doing a deep clean of your space and rearranging your furniture. It can actually make you feel like a whole new person.

Make your living space your favorite space. Whether it’s adding photos, plants, or a new throw making sure you create a comfortable and functional room is all we need. If you decide to add some spice to your room, tag us on Instagram, @VALLEYmag, to show us your new room!
