Do you ever wish you took more photos when looking back on the good times? Bad Bunny’s newest album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” contains 17 tracks that reflect Puerto Rico’s culture and history. Along with his latest album, he released a short film starring Jacobo Morales, a famous Puerto Rican filmmaker. This album shows a new side of Bad Bunny’s musical talents and his appreciation of his Puerto Rican roots.

“Debí Tirar Más Fotos” translates to “I Should Have Taken More Photos.” This album is an emotional and heartfelt journey of one’s love for their country and how being away from something for so long can bring you closer to it than you were before.
Puerto Rico has a beautiful culture like no other along with its music. This album, in terms of genre, ranges from música jíbara and salsa all the way to modern sounds like house and reggeaton. In the first track “NUEVAYoL,” Bad Bunny samples the song “Un verano en Nueva York” by El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico – a famous Puerto Rican dance band from the 1960s. As well as the beautiful culture of Puerto Rico, New York has a huge part in Puerto Rican culture because many Puerto Ricans migrated to New York which created a large community for them in the state.

Bad Bunny’s Short Film Project
Included with the album, Bad Bunny released a short film starring the famous Puerto Rican filmmaker, Jacobo Morales. The short film takes place in Puerto Rico and is about an elderly man going about his day and walking to a bakery to order his usual. When he tries to order his usual, he realizes how modernized everything is: the worker only speaks English to him and when he tries to pay in cash, she tells him how they only accept cards now.
As the elderly man is distraught now because he cannot pay for his meal, a younger man stands up to pay for the elderly man’s meal. The younger man tells the elderly man “seguimos aquí” which translates to “we’re still here.” That phrase creates comfort and a feeling of safety for the elderly man. The short film shows what Puerto Rico is going through, or in other words, how it is dramatically changing from what it used to be.

Sapo Concho Toad
In the short film, the elderly man talks with his little friend Concho. The sapo concho, or crested toad, is an endangered toad in Puerto Rico. Having Concho in the short film shines some light on the crested toad and how they are a part of Puerto Rican grounds. In the film, the elderly man talks to Concho about how living in the moment is amazing, but as you get older you realize that “Debí Tirar Más Fotos.”
