Is Going Out Overrated?

The moment every college student waits for their whole teenage life is the second they can go out with that first sense of freedom. But after years of going out, does it ever get old? Feel overrated? Repetitive?

As college students get older the awkward time frame between turning 20 and feeling bored at the frats starts to sink in. The desire to go to the bars becomes stronger and stronger as students choose to stay in rather than go do the same thing over again at the frats.

If you’re reading this as a freshman, the overratedness of going out probably hasn’t settled in yet. As for seniors, most are soaking it in while they can. But for most overworked sophomores and juniors who are dying to turn 21, the frat and going out boredom has begun.

At this point in our college lives, the getting ready part of a night is likely the best part. The second you step into that dirty, overcrowded, sweaty frat house, the excitement begins to wear off. The thought of sipping on a glass of wine or a cold margarita in your apartment and having a girls night sounds more and more like the perfect idea.

Recently, a wine Wednesday with your roommates watching your favorite show while laughing and having a low-key night sounds like the ideal night. But what is it about this point in our lives that is making partying sounds so… overrated?

The schoolwork of sophomore and junior year of college is harder than any other year of their life. The stress of homework, classes, internships, job lineups and clubs and activities makes the lives of college students more stressful than anything. It’s coming to a point where at the end of the day, nothing sounds more appealing than laying on the couch, lighting a candle and having a relaxing night of wine.

Sure there are some people that still absolutely enjoy going out all nights they can. But for some, the “I’m not going out anymore” text is most of the time, a sigh of relief. The thank god most people hear in their head when no one wants to come out is becoming more common.

Sometimes, the best memories are made in your own apartment, surrounded by people you love, and not in a dirty frat basement where you can’t even name 10 brothers.
