Is Staying In Allowed?

Being a college student can be very stressful, so it is important to note when you need to take a night off to stay in and recharge.

Going out and meeting up with all your friends is super fun, but there comes a time when you have to prioritize what is essential — think about all the pros and cons when deciding the better option.

You may consider staying in because you have a huge exam coming up, but you may also want to go out because everyone else is. Think about this — what will happen if you do not go to the event and what will happen if you don’t study? Then ask yourself what feels more meaningful. Whatever that decision is should feel more important down the line, not right this second.

Down the line, would you think back to this moment and say, “I should have gone out,” or “I should have studied?” No matter what that answer is, it is essential to be in tune with yourself.

Sometimes students think they have to go out because it is a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, however that is not the case! Going out does not have to be in your routine just because you are in college.

College is a place where you are supposed to be focusing on your academics and learning skills to pursue that dream job or goals you may have. Take a night in and focus on your studies (or to relax from focusing on your studies so much).

Even if this does not happen, every young adult should be getting between seven to nine hours of sleep per night. Although many people do not get sleep this much, this is what your body needs. Not only does studying and getting your work done get you positive results but a proper sleep schedule has been proven to help as well.

Friends may encourage you to go out with them, and you may feel the pressure to tag along. Remember that they want you there because you have fun together, but that they’ll understand if you need to take a night to yourself.

Missing a night out that was so fun may feel frustrating, but when you get the opportunity to go out, you probably want to make the most of it. Is there a point in going out if you are just going to think about getting home?

Should you decide to stay in, there are many things you can do to keep busy. Getting school work out of the way is always nice, but if you need to recharge you might rather do some self-care routines. You can take a bath, journal, read a book, listen to a podcast or watch your favorite show.

While it may not always feel like it, it’s always okay to take a night to cool down — if anything, it will get you in an even better mood to go out the next time!
