There are many questionable beauty and health trends around TikTok, and bandaging your chin to sleep to get that “snatched” face look is one of them. The desire to define your face and jaw has been popular for a long time using mouth tape, slimming devices and others. The real question is, do they actually work, or are we just wasting our money?
In this article, VALLEY will answer your questions on whether you should be investing in these products or not.
According to Well+Good, putting on mouth tape or face-lift tape and claiming it works lacks scientific support. Experts, like sleep specialist Dr. Wendy Troxel, don’t support these trends, as they can be misleading. However, when it comes to chin straps unless you undergo temporary surgery, they will not be an effective treatment.
The problem is, when one relies on TikTok trends for health advice, it is not always going to be accurate—and it might even be risky. When it comes to sleeping with any sort of tape on your mouth or chin, it is best to seek professional help.

The truth is, that TikTok is known for starting unrealistic beauty standard trends, promoting teen girls and young adults to buy products that will make them look “perfect.” However, this isn’t always accurate since most of these videos you see are sponsored. Therefore, people are getting paid to post about these products and state that they have worked perfectly for them.

We gathered research on what college girls have purchased when it comes to beauty products and which ones have worked best. Most girls said the Gua Sha, a smooth-edged tool, works to sculpt the face if you use it the right way. However, not many of them have purchased chin bandages. “It just seems like it wouldn’t work, and I would be so uncomfortable sleeping with those,” a Penn State student said about purchasing tape to sleep.
Overall, if you do want to slim your face or help your snoring, do your research and contact a professional. It is also proven that staying hydrated, eating clean, and cutting alcohol will cause a major change in your body and skin, but we wouldn’t recommend falling for the TikTok trap.
