These days we’re always looking for good lighting. The selfie epidemic has become one we simply cannot live without. Why should that change for our living space? Lighting truly makes all the difference. If your selfie can’t be in bad lighting, then your apartment should be no excuse.
The Lethal LED
Have you ever been in a room with too harsh lighting? You look up and are immediately blinded. Those jarring LED lights can make any room feel icy and disagreeable. Of course in spaces like schools, offices and stores LED lights are necessary, but within your own living space you have free reign, so why not make it cozy and comfortable?
There may be a certain reason why you may struggle to find the correct lighting for your personal spaces. One issue has to do with the hue or the shade your light bulbs are giving off. LEDs sold at a lower price will present a more green or pink hue which can disrupt the balance of light in your room. Certain colors don’t mix, so you must choose your lights wisely.
“If you see that your bulb is neither too blue nor yellow, but is green or pink, you may have an issue not with the color temperature selection, but with the quality control of the lighting manufacturer over the light color,” says Waveform Lighting.
In spaces where we want to feel comfortable and warm, LED lights tend to make the space cool-toned. This creates a less welcoming environment not only temperature-wise but visually as well. Warm-toned bulbs make rooms look more inviting and highlight colors or aspects of the room to make them pop.
A Warmer Approach
Warmer lighting promotes relaxation. It causes less strain on the eyes. Additionally, it changes perception. “Warm colors in a room tend to change our perception of the color of objects within the room from how they would look in daylight. If your room is lit with mostly warm light, be sure to check out any furniture or other decor you’re considering under a similar light, to avoid unpleasant surprises,” says author Bill Lewis from The Spruce.
It’s without question you can see the difference in how warm-toned lighting highlights various aspects of the room, enabling it to be a more comfortable and cozy space. The homely and soft lighting echos through the curtains and reflects beautifully off-the-wall art.
Intentional Lighting
Another way to spice up any room is to be intentional. Choosing certain elements of luminance in areas of your room can add to the snugness of the space. Small and dainty pieces of lighting like lamps, bulb string lights and hanging fixtures are perfect additions to really “light” up a room.
You can easily see the difference in the ambiance based on the time of day and the fixture above hanging in the center of the room. Additionally, the space has simple but effective lighting that brings the room together. A small lamp in the corner and warm-toned lighting make the characteristics of the room present a soft, comforting glow.
