Are you in need of a bestie? Look no further. Sarah Baska is a YouTuber and social media personality. She got her start on Vine at age 16 under the username “kinda sãrah,” making six-second videos about One Direction, Harry Styles and random skits in her bedroom. She also grew up in a small town in Oregon before moving to California in 2017 with her roommate Christel Vidal.
The 24-year-old has made a name for herself as a kind, warm and genuine public figure who wants nothing but the best for everyone. Her content encompasses anecdotes from her life, as well as vlogs, the occasional music video and what she calls her “gaming career.”
Baska’s captivating storytelling abilities and transparency about the not-so-cinematic parts of being a young adult are appealing to viewers as she has accumulated 1.68 million subscribers.
Her Stories
This rollercoaster video is everything a Harry Styles stan could ask for. It includes her first listen to the English singer’s sophomore album “Fine Line,” footage from his “One Night Only” show at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., Vidal’s conversation with Styles’ mother and the crowd mistaking comedian Ellen DeGeneres for Irish singer Niall Horan.
Yes, you read that title correctly. After her introductory song, Baska tells viewers about her experience attending an EDM concert in an inflatable cow costume. She’s accompanied by Vidal and TikTokers Brittany Broski and Emmy Hartman. She also rents a camper van and installs GoPros a lá Carpool Karaoke — transforming the vlog into something from a dream. It’s reminiscent of a road trip you long to take with friends and makes you want to party in a cow suit because, why not?
This video is a classic. Alongside fellow YouTuber Caitlyn Rae, Baska recounts the debacle that was internet personalities Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau’s wedding. She walks viewers through the chaotic night, starting from when she mistook an Oprah impersonator for the actual Oprah Winfrey, lost a faux eyelash when a fight broke out at the altar and woke up in a bathtub surrounded by onions she picked out of her sandwich.
Baska and Rae also launched their podcast “Cheers, Brother!” in January 2021. The pair discussed “the insanity life throws at them week after week, completely unfiltered and unedited,” according to Apple Podcasts. The show ran for 22 episodes before Baska and Rae decided mutually to end it in late June.
Her Transparency
This vlog was released after Baska broke up with her boyfriend of three years. It documents the highs and lows of the healing process, showing viewers that there is power in vulnerability. She describes it as a “rollercoaster of emotions” and “literally a journey.” Baska is upfront about her experiences with anxiety, including footage of tackling her intrusive thoughts and learning to find comfort in being alone.
For years, Baska has faced health issues. At the beginning of this video, she explains the numbness, tingling and burning sensations in her feet and extreme fatigue she’s endured since she was younger. After visiting multiple doctors and taking seemingly endless tests, Baska discovered she has Hashimoto’s disease — an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the body’s tissues. In this video, she details the fear she had in finding answers, but expresses relief in knowing she can move forward to better her health.
In May 2021, Baska announced Joychella — a virtual two-day retreat filled with classes and workshops on combatting social anxiety, imposter syndrome and perfection paralysis — with her life coach Joy Graysen. In a podcast episode, she described the weekend as the first time she felt she made “a huge impact on a lot of people” and “got to see it firsthand.”
“It was just a completely different experience and it was almost like this is what I was meant to do,” Baska said in the announcement video for Joychella II in August 2021. “This is what I want to do.”
