As second semester meets its midpoint, spring break season ensues. But oh no! Somehow in all the madness, you forgot to buy plane tickets and an Airbnb in Fort Lauderdale! What on earth are you to do!? Don’t panic. VALLEY knows a thing or two about whipping up a fun and stylish spring break at the last second.
Take Advantage of Upcoming Events
Spring break is the perfect opportunity to explore your area or take a little road trip to immerse yourself in fun festivals and exhibits. Dress yourself up in a cute outfit, toss your digital camera in your bag and hit the road.
Pennsylvania has some great things to offer this spring break, all a reasonable driving distance from State College.
First up is the Philadelphia Flower Show, running from March second to the 10th. You can meander through elaborate floral exhibits, watch botany competitions and create stunning bouquets. Talk about a cute girl’s trip.
And if State Patty’s wasn’t enough Irish cheer for you this year, pop over to Scranton for their St. Patrick’s Day parade on March ninth. It’s one of the largest St. Patrick’s parades in the country!
And who doesn’t love ice skating and viewing majestic and extremely niche ice sculptures? Downtown Harrisburg is having its annual fire and ice festival on March second, and the fire dancing, themed drinks and ice carvings are sure to entertain.
If you’re an out-of-stater and can’t make it to these events, do a little research about fun things happening near you. Enjoying nearby events is a great way to spend the break. Maybe there is a great art exhibition, pop-up shop or a concert coming up. Whatever it is, go explore!
State Parks Are So Totally In
Sitting on the couch all spring break is totally last season. You know what isn’t? Exploring state parks with your friends. Pennsylvania and surrounding areas are home to some amazing parks, like Ricketts Glen and Lehigh Gorge. Go hit one and hike as much as your heart desires! You can even do some car camping or glamping and hit more spots the next day. State College can be limiting in the nature department during the winter, so take advantage of your opportunity to find calm in a state park.
Be a Cowgirl for a Day
If you’ve been on social media the last few months, there is a good chance you’ve seen TikToks of ranchers and cowgirls riding horses off into the Montana sunset. Or maybe you’ve seen Bella Hadid in her chaps, winning medals for her ability to herd livestock on horseback. Maybe you’ve thought to yourself, “Wow, wouldn’t that be cool.” Well, make those dreams a reality, baby. There are plenty of ranches all over the country that offer horseback riding trips, and as a bonus, they’re much cheaper than flights to Florida or Cancun.
Save the Memories!
Whatever you decide to do, make sure you catalog your adventure. Use a fun app like Beli, which allows you to track the restaurants you have visited and rank their food on a map. Maybe even invest in a Polaroid or a digital camera to bring your spring break photos to the next level. Take plenty of photos to remind yourself of your best spring break yet!
