Ariana Grande, known for her hit singles such as “No Tears Left To Cry” and “God is A Woman,” has had a year full of ups and downs. Ariana has become an international pop star at the young age of 24.
The past year for Grande has been something most people would not be able to deal with, let alone someone in the scrutinizing eye of the public. Ariana is an extremely talented singer, but she has been through one of the worst years.
A Look Back
In May of 2017, Ariana was performing at a concert in Manchester, England. At her concert, 22 fans lost their lives in a bombing perpetrated by suicide bomber Salman Abedi. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Grande says, “It’s hard to talk about because so many people have suffered such severe, tremendous loss.” The singer opened up in that same interview about how that event has lead to her getting post-traumatic stress syndrome, which has also affected many of the survivors and victims’ families.
Grande then took it upon herself to organize the One Love Manchester concert, which benefited these survivors and families. Artists such as Niall Horan, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry came to perform. The concert raised over $3 million.
The Good
In August, Ariana released her fourth album “Sweetener.” This album hit number one in several countries, including in the United States, and top 25 world-wide. One of the hit songs, “No Tears Left To Cry,” hit Billboard’s Top 10 reaching the no. 3 spot. Eight of Grande’s singles have hit the Top 10 for Billboard, including other songs such as “Problem feat. Iggy Azalea,” “Break Free feat. Zedd,” “Bang Bang” with Jessie J & Nicki Minaj, “Love Me Harder” with The Weeknd, “One Last Time,” “Dangerous Woman,” “Side to Side feat. Nicki Minaj” and “No Tears Left to Cry.”
Come Back to Earth
“I’m so mad, I’m so sad I don’t know what to do.”
Sept. 7, 2018 was a painful day for the fans, friends and family of Malcolm McCormick, also known as Mac Miller. He died of a drug overdose at age 26. Mac’s death came as a shock to everyone, although it was widely known that he had a drug addiction because that was the reason for the split with Ariana. She spoke out about it on Twitter after one user blamed her for his DUI arrest.

After Mac’s death, Grande went silent for a day and then posted on Instagram a single photo with the comments disabled.
She then posted a video of him with a caption that brought tears to fans, but the comments were again disabled.
Ariana tried to emphasize in this interview that she is more than the boy she is with. “I’m tired of needing to be linked to a guy,” she said. “I’m not Big Sean’s ex, I’m not Niall [Horan]’s new possible girl. I’m Ariana Grande.”
Moving On
Recently, Grande split with her fiancée, Pete Davidson. Davidson is an American comedian who has been on “Saturday Night Live” and “Guy Code.” They had been engaged for four months, but the recent overdose of Mac Miller is speculated to have been the reason behind the split.
Grande decided to take a social media hiatus for a few days before posting for the celebration of 15 years of “Wicked” with a selfie with the “Wicked” star herself, Idina Menzel.
There are several rumors going around about the split, but she has chosen to not comment on them.
The Future
Grande seems to want to focus on herself and be happy on her own. No one knows what the rest of 2018 has in store, but she has continuously thanked her fans for her supporting her and loving her so much on social media.
