After a five-game championship series, the New York Yankees won the American League Championship Series (ALCS) for the first time in 15 years. The five-game series began when the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians faced off on Monday, October 14, at Yankee Stadium.
NY Yankees began the season with a win of 5-2. NY Yankees’ Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton led the game by launching home runs while Captain Aaron Judge hit his first Run Batted In (RBI) of the postseason. Pitcher Luke Weaver finished the eighth and ninth innings on the mount.
Singer/ songwriter Taylor Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce were in attendance at game one of the ALCS.
Game two’s final score of 6-3 gave another victory to the NY Yankees. Judge wore a navy turtleneck under his uniform as a throwback to the 1990s and early 2000s. The MVP hit his first home run in the postseason, securing the NY Yankees a win. The two-run home run was Judge’s 59th run around the bases this season. Anthony Rizzo, playing with two fractured fingers, hit a double, bringing home a run for the Yankees. The game kept the NY Yankees at a 2-0 lead of the series.
Game three, however, set the Yankees back with a 5-7 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. After back-to-back victories against the Guardians, Yankee fans’ disappointment was high.
At the top of the eighth, Judge hit a two-run home run sending himself and Soto to home plate. Then, Stanton hit yet another home run. Though at the bottom of the ninth, the Guardians tied the game with a home run from Jhonkensy Noel. The Guardians’ David Fry hit a two-run home un in the bottom of the tenth securing the win for the Cleveland Guardians.
The NY Yankees came back after game four, with an 8-6 victory keeping them with a 3-1 lead in the series.
Soto hit a home run to center field in the top of the first, sending himself and Gleyber Torres home. Austin Wells hit a homer in the top of the second securing the 3-0 lead for New York. At the top of the sixth, Stanton hit a three run home run sending Stanton, Judge and Soto around the bases. Jon Berti and Anthony Volpe both scored in the top of the ninth finishing the game with a 8-6 win and a 3-1 lead in the series.
Game five secured the NY Yankees ALCS Championship with a 5-2 win. With home runs from Stanton and Soto, the Yankees are headed straight to the World Series against the LA Dodgers. With 25 All Stars and 6 MVPs across both the NY Yankees and LA Dodgers, the coast to coast World Series will be one to remember, starting on Friday October 25 in Los Angeles.
