Even though the career fair at the BJC is now a distant memory, the real application crunch is in full swing for a lot of students. For those of you still scrambling to lock down summer internships or career plans, AdClub is hosting a LinkedIn and career workshop to iron out those resume wrinkles.
Chellsy Costello, the publicity chair, says that students in any major can come and “have their resume looked over in a smaller more intimate, laid back setting where any questions can be answered and feedback can be given,” especially with tricky LinkedIn profiles.
“LinkedIn is becoming more and more of a necessity for a job-seeking student to have. So many professionals look at your profile seriously and it is an opportunity to show them what you have to offer in addition to your resume,” Costello says.
Costello says that Barb Horne, the lead communicator at Ideal Image Marketing in town, will be on hand to talk about the do’s and don’ts of LinkedIn so students can perfect their online pitch to companies. Other local professionals will be available to look over resumes and help students work on their pitches to clients.
“Students make this event what they want, can stay for however long until they feel they have gotten enough out of it to really say their resume/pitch/samples are better than before,” Costello says.
The workshop will be held Monday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. in 219 Hammond. Participants should bring resumes, portfolios, creative samples and lots and lots of questions. If you don’t have nearly enough to do over Thanksgiving or winter break, it’s never too early to start career planning.
