Pick of the Week: Pura Vida Bracelets

We all knew the struggle. Hours spent braiding, knotting and twisting multiple colors of string together into the perfect summer friendship bracelet or anklet — only to see it end up frayed and sun-bleached after an afternoon in the pool or on the beach.

Wouldn’t it have been wonderful if our favorite summer accessories were somehow waterproof?

I’m here to tell you that wish has been granted. Waterproof bracelets do exist, thanks to Pura Vida Bracelets.

Pura Vida Bracelets got its start when two recent college graduates from Southern California took a trip to Costa Rica and met a couple guys selling handmade bracelets. The two friends were impressed with the simplicity of the bracelets and purchased several hundred to take home to the U.S. Long story short, a business relationship was born that has since flourished.

As it was from the start, every bracelet purchased helps to provide for local Costa Rican artisans and their families. Pura Vida Bracelets has since expanded it’s contributions to charity with a whole line of charity bracelets customized to support a particular cause — including cancer awareness, animal and environment awareness, military and other health conditions. One percent of the sales are donated to the respective cause.

The handmade bracelets are coated in wax and therefore one hundred percent waterproof. They come in a variety of colors and collections including beaded, braided and with charms attached, to list a few.

Take it from someone whose wrists are stacked with these bracelets every summer (and throughout the rest of the year too, to be honest). They are the best bracelets EVER. It’s just an added bonus that they are waterproof as well. If you still need convincing, just check out the enviable wrists they post to Instagram on the daily.

Even better? The lowest priced bracelets are just $5.

Pura Vida, indeed!
