On Jan. 20 the 45th and 47th U.S President Donald Trump was inaugurated. In his speech, President Trump spoke often about the “golden age of America” that he plans on ushering throughout his presidency. The main takeaways from his speech include what he will focus on during his presidency, criticisms of the outgoing Biden Administration and his list of executive orders.
Overall policies
President Trump’s overarching policies were released on the official White House website stating the first steps he plans on taking in office. First, he wants to “make America safe again”. To do this, he wishes to secure US borders, designate drug cartels, suspend refugee resettlement and promote the death penalty through the Department of Justice. He will “make America affordable and energy dominant.” He will “bring back American values” by ensuring all landmarks properly honor our country and make clear the two genders in the US: male and female.
To complete this, President Trump will leave the Paris Climate Agreement, take emergency action to reduce the cost of living, end “Biden’s policies of climate extremism” and promote consumer purchase of items like showerheads and washing machines. Lastly, President Trump outlines his plan to “drain the swamp”, where he will promote his Golden Age through the reform of the bureaucracy and implement a set of executive orders.

What did Trump do on his first day in office?
On his first day in office, Trump signed 46 executive orders. Per his promises before entering office, Trump pardoned around 1500 rioters from the Jan. 6 riots back in 2021. He also signed an order to end birthright citizenship stating that those born into families of non legal permanent residents of the US are not to be considered citizens. Trump undid orders that encouraged electric vehicles that former President Biden had previously implemented. He aimed to protect free speech by stopping the censorship of Americans’ free speech through social media platforms like TikTok.
Trump declared he would “terminate every open-borders policy of the Biden Administration.” To upkeep this promise Trump has already undone four of Biden’s immigration related executive orders, tasked Homeland Security with locking down on immigration policies and denied funding to asylums that do not align with federal immigration laws among other things.

What did Trump not get done on his first day?
Given the hefty to-do list President Trump set for himself to complete within his first day, it is not surprising there were some things he did not get to. Trump did not end the war with Ukraine within his first office despite his repeated claims he would be able to within 24 hours. He stated on his first day in office he would create an auto industry “fueled by American energy” but failed to complete any executive orders to work towards this goal. Trump also did not get rid of critical race theory, impose tariffs or create the “largest deportation program in American history.”
