The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child just five months after their royal wedding at Windsor Castle in Windsor, England. Kensington Palace sent out a statement on Monday that the newest little bundle of joy is expected to arrive in spring 2019.
This new baby has already made headlines and history. It will be the first for both Meghan Markle, 37 years old, and Prince Harry, 34 years old. This new baby will be the first of mixed race for the British royal family and is also seventh in line for the throne, right behind Harry.
The American Duchess has created a new look to the royal family since she began dating Prince Harry in July of 2016. She is biracial, divorced and openly supports women’s rights.
According to Quartz, the baby might have to pay American taxes and have British-American dual citizenship because of Markle’s Californian roots. According to Evening Standard, the newest member of the royal family will not be a prince or a princess, unless the Queen says otherwise. King George V made a rule of limiting titles in 1917.
The parents-to-be are currently on a 16-day tour, hitting areas in Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand. Markle isn’t letting new pregnancy problems get the best of her. According to the Huffington Post, the new mom-to-be spoke with Charlotte Waverly stating, “pregnancy is like having jet lag.” According to Sky News, Waverly added that “[Markle] said she was up at 4:30 a.m. this morning doing yoga in her room as she couldn’t sleep.”
Although the newest member of the royal family won’t be here until 2019, the Duke and Duchess have already started to pick out baby names. According to E! News, while taking a tram during the tour the couple was asked by a fan if they had picked out any baby names yet. The child that asked, 12-year-old Ella Burns, said that Meghan replied, “We’ve been given a long list of names from everyone. We are going to sit down and have a look at them.”
Regardless of the name, the newest member of the royal family will join the next generation of royals and have three new cousins to play around the palace with: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
VALLEY can hardly wait for the next baby to enter the royal family in spring of 2019.
