As the holidays come to a close, a new season is upon us: Award show season. Starting in January all through March is a string of dazzling red carpet events and the next ceremony to be in the limelight is the Grammys, which will be on Feb 5. The tantalizing anticipation of these glamorous events has VALLEY speculating what people will be wearing this year. Last year, bodycon, sheer fabrics, tulle and high slits dominated the runway. Based on the names that are forefronting several of the nomination categories like Taylor Swift, Adele, Steve Lacy, etc. stylists are predicting five major trends for the runway this year.
1. Fringe
Stylists are anticipating lots of fringe looks. Fringe has been having a bit of a moment in the fashion world recently and was a huge hit at fashion week in Milan back in September of 2022. The fringe look is a little vintage, a little bohemian and a lot of fun. In the realm of vintage style, bodega earrings, big chunky jewelry and statement pieces are likely to accompany these looks.
2. Boudoir Dressing
“Coquette” style and ballerina core began trending in 2022 and has been carried over into this year. Soft silks like Hailey Bieber’s iconic dress from last year’s Grammys, sheer fabrics and a lot of lace are definitely going to be on the runway this year.
3. Sheer Layers and Bodycon
On the same note as the boudoir dressing that’s coming back into style, strutting just a sheer touch of sexiness is very on brand for 2023.
4. Oversized Jackets and Blazers
Clean girl aesthetic has had a chokehold on society for months now, and has seeped its way into high fashion. The clean slate look, an extension of the neo-minimalism trend, started popping up on runways towards the end of 2022. Poplin shirts, padded blazers and slacks is the perfect combination of old school and new business that many big names hope to achieve.
5. Mod Replacing Y2K
Over saturated colors and low-rise jeans have made their peak comeback, and the next phase in this natural evolution is mod fashion. Shift dresses, black and white and color blocking are extensions of this style VALLEY expects to see a lot of this year. Perhaps a more modern twist will be taken on this style, like ultra mini dresses or open vests paired with suits.
6. Ruffles and Flower Details
Gorgeous ruffles have been seen everywhere worn by influencers all over TikTok to New York fashion week. Fancì Club has come out with so many beautiful pieces for the springtime featuring ruffles. The statement flower pieces are a stunning addition to the timeless ruffle trend, and one that many artists will likely tap into.
