This weekend, the streets of State College will be filled with Penn State students in their creative, colorful or most frightening costumes. But when the costume is made and a spooky Halloween aura lingers over students, where do you go to make hauntingly good memories? Here are a few Halloween happenings in State College.
If you’re looking for a frighteningly good deal on anything burrito, look no further than State College’s Chipotle Mexican Grill. If arriving in costume on Halloween after 5 p.m., customers receive a $3 burrito, bowl, salad or order of tacos. If you’re feeling lucky, enter the Boorito Costume Contest. Take a photo of yourself in costume at Chipotle and upload it to Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag “#chipotlebooritocontest,” Three grand prizes of $2,500 will be awarded to best group costume, scariest costume, and most creative costume. Runners up receive Chipotle catering for up to 20 people. If you love extra cash in your pocket as much as you love a spicy burrito bowl, it’s worth it to put some extra effort into your costume this year.
For those Penn Staters 21 and over, bars and clubs have scary good specials and fun contests specific to Halloween.
Gather up your friends, get on your best costume, and head to Indigo Night Club on College Avenue Thursday, Friday and Saturday this weekend. According to Indigo’s website, combined prizes totaling over $5,000 will be awarded to guests showing off their sexiest, scariest or best group costumes. Kicking off the weekend, Indigo will also be hosting DJ Danny Diggz Thursday night. The first 300 guests get in with a free cover charge. Get in line early!
Kildare’s Irish Pub on East College Avenue will be hosting Halloween parties alongside holiday specials. Different food and drink will be discounted half price Thursday and Friday, including half off all liquor and drafts Friday night. Show up in your costume both nights, and have the chance to win cash prizes. Thursday, $250 will be awarded and Friday, $500 will be awarded to best costume. Totally worth dressing up for.
Even if it’s not specifically for Halloween, plenty of bars have daily specials anyone can take advantage of, such as the Phyrst’s half price anything deal Friday’s and Saturday’s from 7-9, or Bar Bleu’s $7 Bacardi Oakhart pitchers every Friday. Go dressed in costume, anyway. It is Halloween after all.
If food and bars aren’t what you had in mind for celebrating Halloween, other miscellaneous activities can be found right here in State College.
Grab a few friends and head over to State Theater at 7 p.m. Halloween night to see a performance of “Frankenstein.” Students receive discounted tickets at only $10. Why not check out such a spook-tacular performance at such a great price?
Why drive miles away to see a haunted house when you can find one right on Penn State’s campus? The Serial Killer Haunted House presented by Penn State’s Forensic Science club is happening from 8 to 10 p.m. all Halloween weekend. Stop at Spruce and Pine Cottages for a killer good time for only five bucks!
If you want to celebrate Halloween in the area, but need a change of scenery from downtown, score a reliable designated driver and head to The Arena Bar and Grill for their “Halloween tradition you don’t want to miss.” The bar, located off campus near Weis Market, is having a Rocky Horror Show Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Anyone who’s not 21 can still check out the show at 7 p.m. Thursday or 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday for a designated 18 and up showing.
So now, you have a plan of where you’re going, but you forgot a detail on your costume that you KNOW will score a cash prize. Stock up on all your Halloween needs at the Fright Gallery, located on the corner of Pugh Street and Beaver Avenue. The store, which is typically Gift Adventures, has totally transformed for the holiday and stocked its shelves with everything Halloween. Pick up your makeup, costumes and accessories here at great prices.
Be sure to check out Halloween events happening around State College and keep your eyes peeled for more spooky specials popping up throughout the week.
