The Met Gala’s 2024 theme, “Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion,” featured archival outfits and nods to historical fashion moments. The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced its 2025 Gala theme, which will take place on Monday, May 5.

The Met’s Costume Institution announced the spring 2025 theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” This theme takes inspiration from Monica Miller’s book titled, “Slave to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” which is a cultural history of the black dandy and the impact the style has on the re-imagination of the self.

Miller herself says that dandy is historically “used to describe someone, often a man, who is extremely devoted to esthetics and approached it as a lifestyle.” Miller will be a guest curator for the exhibit.

This year’s red carpet will be hosted by rapper (and style icon) A$AP Rocky, actor Colman Domingo, F-1 driver Lewis Hamilton, artist Pharrell Williams, and, as always, Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Lebron James has also been named an honorary chair.

In an interview with The New York Times, Andrew Bolton, the event’s curator, describes how this is

“The Met’s first fashion exhibition to focus solely on the work of designers of color, as well as the first in more than two decades to focus explicitly on men’s wear.”

In the last decade, the Gala’s carpet has seen a surge in men’s experimental fashion. Rather than just plain black and white tuxes, the men of the Met turned out some iconic looks.

2025 Predictions

On this year’s red carpet, keep an eye out for some recurring trends. We’ll be sure to see a new take on tailoring to reimagine the traditional suit. Following in the idea of dandyism, accessories such as brooches, chains and hats will be popular this year. Many designers will take inspiration from Black history, like the Harlem Renaissance and traditional African dress.

Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, says that he was “pleasantly surprised and honored,” to hear the theme that celebrates Black men in the world of fashion.
