Horror movies are made to scare. The gore, the jump scares, everything. It’s all designed to incite fear. However, not all terror in horror movies is scary. The fashion in some of these films makes terror seem beautiful. VALLEY has rounded up some fantastical and terrifying films, all with one thing in common: excellent fashion. So get out your popcorn, and enjoy VALLEY’s top horror movies for celestial clothes.
American Psycho
Ah yes, Patrick Bateman, is arguably the most attractive psychopath in a movie ever. Nevertheless, the clothes he wears are *chef’s kiss.* The photo above shows one of the outfits Christian Bale wore in the film. This double-breasted tuxedo fits a bit too well with the character.
The jacket, of course, is Valentino. The gory and twisted movie was set in the 1980’s. The designer label was founded twenty years prior, meaning it was still fresh in the public eye. This inclusion of the coat stood for both Christian Bale’s character and the grander societal themes of the movie.
Kill Bill
Yes, feminism is real. VALLEY loves the yellow two piece tracksuit Uma Thurman wore in this iconic film. The black detailing perfectly contrasts with the vivid base material. The movie was released in the early 2000s and this outfit was simply too good for its time.
One of the characters, Elle Driver, played by Daryl Hannah, had an iconic fashion moment in the film. The outfit, shown above, included pieces from an early 2000’s Moschino collection. The only items that weren’t Moschino were the stylish eyepatch and vibrant umbrella. Ugh, so chic and so horror all at once.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Whether you like the movie or not, the costumes are amazing. Each outfit the characters wear inside the castle is the definition of camp. During the past decade or so, this film shot up in popularity. This is due, it part, to its peculiar nature and distinctive themes.
Another phenomenal aspect of the film was the fashion. Corsets and knee socks aplenty, this film blurred gender barriers before it was considered a thing. Clothing in this movie represented both gender and self expression, and while it wasn’t automatically loved in 1975, it definitely is now.
The Craft
This film is for the nineties fashion lovers. “The Craft” is more on the spooky and witchy side of horror, but VALLEY still loves it. Grunge was all the rage back then and still pops up nowadays in current fashion. Leather, darker colors and piercings filled the character’s appearances.
The movie’s costume wardrobe was full of dark and oversized clothes. Even though the characters in the film wore a uniform, it was altered in different ways to show their personalities. “The Craft” makes this horrific and fabulous list because grunge broke conformity in the nineties.
