Tucked away on College Ave. among all the restaurants and Penn State merchandise stores, is a hidden gem: Lock Boutique. On Jan. 14, State College got its newest addition to the world of fashion! After walking down College Ave. passing endless amounts of stores with the classic navy and white, Nittany Lions logo, it was a breath of fresh air seeing a charming clothing display…
Owner, Lydia Schafer, always dreamed of owning a boutique. After being a hairstylist in the State College area for thirteen years, she decided to make some changes. Schafer took on photography and used her studio for pop up shops. She loved hosting the pop up boutiques and took it upon herself to open her own. In 2020, Lock Boutique opened in Bellefonte. “I love being able to help girls express themselves through clothing.” Schafer started off the New Year right, by getting the keys to her kingdom, here in State College. Two weeks later, the store moved, and the rest is history!
“I wanted to challenge myself creatively and professionally.”
Lydia wants to share cute and modern fashion with our community. “Our mission is for Lock girls of all ages to feel confident in their clothes. It’s hard to shop current fashion in small towns. We are happy to bring the world of fashion to State College PA!”
Upon walking into the store, you will be greeted by employees such as Lexi Rickard. When asked to describe Lock in three words, Rickard said “modern, flirty, and girly.” When Schafer was asked the same question, she responded with “preppy, flirty, and southern charm.”
Lock also has a website, with their newest arrivals, the only items exclusive to the store are the accessories. The boutique definitely brings the happy southern charm to State College!
