The Least and Most Successfully Iconic Celebrity Marriages

In today’s generation, it is no shocking news when we hear that yet another celebrity couple has decided to sever ties and continue on separate paths. From one significant other to the next, the web of celebrity relationships is certainly very tangled and mangled! Hollywood has been guilty for giving the public the idea of ‘false love’ that we all see in all of the classic rom-coms. But, why is it that the actors themselves are the ones who can’t seem to maintain the picture-perfect relationship that they portray in movies?

The public provides so much attention to those couples that can’t make it work, but where’s the congratulatory publicity to those who can? Any relationship exceeding a mere five to seven years in Hollywood is basically considered a lifetime!

So who are these couples with the successful love life? In light of this contrast between false and lasting love in the daunting celebrity world, Valley has looked into some of the most and some of the least successful celebrity marriages of our time.

Some of the Most Successful:
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith

Married since December of 1997, Will and Jada’s abiding 18 year marriage remains seemingly unflawed. Within the last year, there have even been allegations and speculation of a split between the two, but Smith has made sure to make it clear to the public that the two love birds are, in fact, “not getting a divorce.” Back in September, the Fresh Prince of Belair alum even publicly posted an endearing and truly affectionate message for his wife, Jada’s, 44th birthday, accompanied by a throwback picture of two early on in their relationship.

Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker

This couple, married since May of 1997, also seems to remain strong in their efforts to defy the odds against insincere Hollywood love. Appearing on the television show, Watch What Happens Live, back in October, Broderick explains how “level-headed” and “kind” Parker is. He also describes his wife of about 18 years as “a very positive person.” Parker shared with Huffington Post what she thinks the key is to her celebrity marriage.

“The secret is, we don’t discuss it. To reporters or anybody else. That’s it!” Parker tells Huffington Post. “We don’t hold it up as an example and we don’t air our dirty laundry.”

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick

Married for an impressively lengthy 27 years, this iconic couple has surely beaten the odds. The two had an informal encounter during their young teenage years back in the 70’s, however it wasn’t until the 80’s on the set of Lemonsky where they both began their romantic journey. Recently celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary, the Footloose icon posted an honorary anniversary tribute to Sedgwick making it quite obvious that the flame between the two is still very much alive.

Back in October of 2014, Sedgwick told the “Today Show” that her secret to a long and loyal marriage is “not to take advice from celebrities.”

Surely there is nothing better than seeing celebrity couples who have such genuine relationships with their spouses. So hats off to you all! The love amongst these long-lasting couples surely amounts to greater worth than even the net-value of all of their careers combined! Marriages just like fine wine, indeed.

Some of the Least:
Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian

This ‘marriage,’ if one were to call it that, is definitely one that has gone down in the books for possibly the shortest celebrity marriage to date. Married for a whopping 72 days, Kardashian suddenly filed for divorce against NBA star Kris Humphries, reason cited as “irreconcilable differences.” Dating in November of 2010, the two then got engaged a mere six months later in May. After a 90-day engagement, Kardashian and Humphries tie the knot on August 20. 72 days pass and on October 31 the divorce papers are filed. The ironic part? The timeframe of how long it took to settle their divorce was a whole seven times longer than the marriage itself, summing up at a whole 535 days. You win some, you lose some.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry

There is almost nothing worse than a breakup text. Well, that’s how it ended for this unique duo back in December of 2011.

“Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011,” Perry told Vogue in an interview.

After an Indian wedding back in October of 2011, Brand and Perry’s marriage came to a startling halt only 14 months later. According to Perry, from People Magazine, Brand had a difficult time overcoming Perry’s busy role as both a successful musician and business woman.

Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush

Much like their renowned characters, Brooke Davis and Lucas Scott, from the television show One Tree Hill, Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush were just clearly not meant to be. After meeting on the set of their show together in 2003, the two eventually tied the knot in April of 2005. Only five months later, Bush filed for divorce citing fraud. Given that this accusation was relatively hard to prove, their divorce was not granted until December of 2006.

With an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Bush says,”We were two stupid kids who had no business being in a relationship in the first place.”

The two managed to stay cordial on set for the remaining seasons of One Tree Hill until Murray left the series in 2009, which is where the two professionally and personally cut ties.

This society is mounted in a culture where we are absolutely fascinated with celebrities and their love lives. Although there are significant differences in their lives from that of ours, we can still learn a thing or two from these memorable relationships. From their fatal flaws come our lessons learned from the rich and famous.
