It’s finally time — our favorite group of gangsters will be gracing our TV screens once again this summer.
After making a name for itself as one of the most popular shows on television, “Peaky Blinders” is returning to Netflix on June 10 for its sixth and last season. We’re here to fill you in on everything you need to know before you binge the entire series.
“Peaky Blinders” originally premiered on BBC in Sept. of 2013 to much approval from fans. Once it made its way to the U.S., the series had become a global phenomenon. Everyone was in love with Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and his band of brothers.
Cillian Murphy leads the show portraying a ruthless and cunning gangster controlling the streets of Birmingham, England. All of the trouble the Peaky Blinders get themselves into — from their illegal betting and black-market dealings — brings about constant problems for the Shelby family as their enemies stop at nothing to destroy them. Tommy Shelby always seems to come up with a genius plan to protect his family and continue building the Peaky Blinders name.
However, the end of the fifth season had audiences questioning if the Shelbys would make it out of their last battle unscathed. From what we can tell, the Peaky Blinders have a lot to take care of in this last season. Murphy told Variety that he thinks the fans will be pleased.
As much as we are excited for the release of the last episodes of the show, we know we will be missing one of the most important parts of “Peaky Blinders” — Helen McCrory.
McCrory played the powerful matriarch of the family, Polly Gray, for the last five seasons of the series. She is also known for her portrayal of Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. Her acting abilities and connections with her characters are unmatched and she has countless awards to show for it.
In April of 2021, McCrory passed away after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Her death shocked her fans and deeply saddened her costars. Murphy said in an interview, “I just hope that the show will live up to her memory and our memory of her.”
While “Peaky Blinders” will not be the same without the iconic Polly Gray, we have high hopes for what is to come for Tommy, Arthur, Michael and the rest of the Peaky crew.
