It’s that time of year again when college students pack the last 11 weeks of their lives into a suitcase and go back home for the holiday. There are so many plans to be had on Thanksgiving break and everything you’ll need has to fit into just one bag.
A week at school in the middle of November might not be so exciting. Most students are actually itching to get out of the bubble of Penn State. The week before Thanksgiving break is almost as dreadful as finals week.
A week at home though, after months of not seeing some of your favorite people, could be the most exciting week of the semester.
Thanksgiving Break Necessities
The things we pack will all be a part of the memories we will make over Thanksgiving break.
An outfit to go out with friends the night before Thanksgiving, something to go Black Friday shopping and for the feast with our family that is ready to critique the fashion trends of our generation.
The holiday festivities are also in full swing by Nov. 28. Christmas lights are gleaming, hot chocolate is brewing and there are sure to be some Christmas tree sightings.
And you’ll need to be prepared for all of these activities. The clothes you strategically pack will fit every occasion and then some, because the last thing you want is to be unprepared.
But it isn’t the same as browsing the clothes in your closet. Picking clothes out of a suitcase is a reminder that the moments are temporary. Thanksgiving break is a tease of what winter break will be.
When All Is Said And Done
When we all hitch a ride back to school either by a bus, train or plane, the clothes in our bag will be a symbol of the nights we wish could last.
While you’re unpacking, the sweats you wore during movie nights with the girls or the top you wore on Thanksgiving Eve with drink stains on it will force you to reminisce.
Holiday breaks in college are funny in this way. In high school, a week off from school could almost be considered too long. Now there seems to be never enough time on our excused breaks.
Let’s be cliche for a second: time flies when you’re having fun. It really does. Thankfully our suitcases will always be there to remind us of the last trip and prepare us for the next one.
