Even though THON is less than a week away (!!!), most of us are probably still scrambling to get the final touches that will round out our outfits for the coming weekend. It’s all too easy to end up purchasing the same THON gear as everyone else, so VALLEY came up with some unique, fun DIY accessories to make you and your crew stand out in the crowded stands.
Idea #1: Flower Headband
The flower headband is a great accessory to consider wearing, especially if you plan on staying in the BJC for an extensive period of time, because it offers coverage of any flat or lackluster tresses.
What You’ll Need:
- Elastic headband
- Faux flowers (choose colors that match the theme of your shirts!)
- Hot glue gun
- Ribbon
What You’ll Do:
- Start off by wrapping a colored ribbon around the headband to cover up any patterns or textures.
- Use your hot glue gun to secure the ends of the ribbon once you’ve completely wrapped the headband.
- Place your flowers along the headband, using the hot glue gun to stick them down—always make sure your flowers are facing outward, so when it comes time to wearing the headband the flowers won’t look squished or weirdly bent.
- Try the headband on and look for any open spaces between flowers, then go back and fill in any holes.
Idea #2: John Lennon Glasses
This is the perfect addition to any outfit this weekend because they’ll hide your seriously sleep-deprived eyes.
What You’ll Need:
- Pair of round lens sunglasses
- White Sharpie marker
What You’ll Do:
- Clean off the lenses of your sunglasses to make sure that they’re free of any dust.
- With the Sharpie marker, write your Greek letters, name of your org or THON 2018 on the lenses in an interesting font.
Idea #3: Fanny Packs
Functional and cute. This outfit add-on helps you carry around your essentials while showing off your personal flair.
What You’ll Need:
- Pins
- Iron-on patches
- Iron
- Rhinestones
- Hot glue gun
What You’ll Do:
- Place the iron on patches (right side up) in your desired spots.
- Use a thin piece of cloth (a bandana or pillowcase will work fine) to cover the patch.
- Press the iron on the piece of cloth and hold for about 30 to 40 seconds.
- Bedazzle your fanny pack by arranging the rhinestones in a pattern that spells out your sorority, fraternity, org or ‘THON’ and using the glue gun to reinforce them.
