2013 was certainly not a disappointing year for the movie industry. As usual, there were so many films released to the big screen it was hard to keep up. This was a good year for the box offices as a lot of anticipated films were released. So now that it is 2014, it is time to look back at what the top five highest grossing movies of 2013 were.
1. Iron Man 3
Post-Avengers, Tony Stark is struggling internally after what happened. He has many sleepless nights leading him to focus solely on his work which endangers his mental health. Luckily, Tony is forced to rebuild himself as Iron Man when a new villain called the Mandarin comes into the world.
2. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Katniss and Peeta are thrown into another ‘special’ round of the Hunger Games called the Third Quarter Quell. It’s special because the tributes are all previous victors, making the competition harder. Katniss and Peeta continue to build their relationship and once again, defend their district.
3. Despicable Me 2
Gru and his little yellow minions are back for round two. Gru’s change of heart in Despicable Me got him recognized by the Anti-Villain League as they ask him for his help capturing a sneaky criminal. This sequel follows Gru, his minions and his daughters as they do it all again.
4. Man of Steel
Superman is more than just a superhero. His name is Clark Kent and he was born on the planet Krypton. After an explosion, he lands in the town of Smallville to be raised by the Kent family. When the evil General Zod threatens Earth, Clark must face his true self to protect the planet.
5. Frozen
Princess Elsa tried for many years to hide her powers, but they are accidentally exposed to the kingdom of Arendelle when she sets off an eternal winter spell on the kingdom.Terrified of what she did, Elsa runs away to the mountains in order to hide from everyone. Her sister, Princess Anna goes on a journey with mountain man named Kristoff to find Elsa and end the spell.
