Year after year popstar, Taylor Swift proves yet again, that she is the music industry. Since 2020, the songwriter has released seven albums, including brand-new and re-recorded work. The 2024 Grammy Awards took fans by surprise when Swift took the stage for another Album of the Year award this year.
Leading up to the Grammys fans had predicted the highly demanded Reputation (Taylor’s Version) to be announced when she won the award. Based on easter eggs and hints posted on her social media and her official PR team Instagram “Taylor Nation” fans waited for the announcement to be made.
However, when taking the stage, Swift did indeed announce an album but threw some fans off completely when announcing her brand new and 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. Some fans predicted the new album based on timelines of her other re-recordings and new work.
Swift released both the cover and tracklist for her new album just days apart. The album follows both the end of her relationship with ex boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, and the breakup between the two. Although Swift did not clearly state this, the message was received after speeches and her song titles.
In Melbourne, Australia for her world tour, The Eras Tour, Swift said she uses her songwriting to get her through tough times, and followed that by saying she needed this album more than anything. Swift claims the album has been in production for over two years. Following the release of “You’re Losing Me,” which was also written towards the end of the two’s relationship, Swifties can only believe the album will be based on their breakup.
The songs on her album tend to lean towards the sad and depressing side, and give the vibes of a reverse “Cornelia Street.” Now let’s break them down:
The first announced bonus track that Swift sang at her Melbourne show is titled “The Bolter.” The first time Swift and Alwyn were seen publicly was at a British pub called “The Bolter.” Track 5, which is known to be Swift’s deepest song, is titled “So Long, London,” where ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, is from. Another, titled “Florida!!! (Featuring Florence and the Machine,” which fans predict is written about the first show she played after her breakup was official, which was played in Florida.
Other tracks predicted to be related to Alwyn are titled “I Can Fix Him (No I Really Can)”, “But Daddy, I Love Him,” and “Fresh Out The Summer,” which are predicted to have some lyric crossovers to her song “Cruel Summer,” which was written about Alwyn on her album Lover.
Specific tracks are predicted to be more personal, such as the song titled, “Clara Bow,” who was a 1920s “it-girl” until her fame ended based on negative comments and hatred from the public. This song is predicted to resemble Swift’s song “Anti-Hero” from her 10th studio album, Midnights.
So with this, grab your tissues because the Taylor Swift breakup albums are back. Check back in with VALLEY for Swifts The Tortured Poets Department, coming April 19.
